The Sunshine State Athletic Conference will have over 75 teams across three different leagues going into the 2023 season which is the largest number of programs they will have ever since forming in 2008.

40 team will make up the 11-man league which is mostly private and small charter schools while the Atlantic league will have 12 teams mostly consisting of struggling public high school programs.

The 8-man league will have 25 teams across six divisions.

Here is more on everything including quotes from the SSAC: https://floridahsfootball.com/2023/01/25/sunshine-state-athletic-conference-announces-2023-teams-for-11-man-8-man-and-atlantic-leagues/

In the 11-man SSAC Division, all teams that participated in the 11-man division last year have returned with the exception of Central Florida Christian Academy (Orlando) which appears to have been removed from the SSAC after issues arose that led to an FHSAA investigation regarding an athlete that was considered homeschool and then enrolled at nearby public high school during the 2022 season that led to a forfeiture of all-games, the resignation of the head coach, and fines and penalties by the FHSAA.

Anybody know which school this was?

Yes, the student was enrolled at Dr. Phillips from what I have been able to look up. The only reason I did not name that school in specific as it was not in correlation to the article, only the fact Central Florida Christian was removed from the SSAC due to the violations.

Cool thanks.  So the kid was enrolled at DP but played at CFC because they thought he was homeschooled?  Did they know about DP or did he mislead them?  Yeesh.

as I drum up some h8,

the atlantic league looks like the best teams in the league, or maybe Im misreading this.  alot of fhsaa teams that wasnt making playoffs.

then the regular league is all the small schools.

kinda looks like fhsaa model of suburban and metro.

will the atlantic league champs play the ssac champs?

SSAC 11-Man is for the smaller private/charter schools. They will have their own champs. Atlantic League will have their own champs as well.

It appears looking at an Orlando Sentinel article now, CFCA was misled from the sounds of it.

    • Same thing my cousin A-Town on here said about Spanish River....
    • I'll play devil's advocate just a little.   As soon as you inject the "human element," you create a risk of bias.  It happens at all levels.   In college football, coaches and sportswriters from the south tend to vote for teams from the south while coaches and sportswriters from the midwest tend to vote for the teams from the midwest.   To a certain extent, it's natural.  I can see the same thing happening at the high school level if you involve coaches, writers, web hosts, etc.  I understand the argument in favor of inserting a little humanity into the process, but that will undoubtedly create a possibility of bias for and against teams based on nothing more than where the teams are located.
    • I totally agree with you 100 percent. Human element is needed. I have yet to see a computer watch a football game.
    • Would like to think that pride, integrity, character, honor would prevent the scenario you describe, but this is high school football in Florida.  The Week 11 non-district games would be a perfect time to “rest” some key players (“load management” as they call it in the NBA), heal up “injuries”, or give the back-ups some playing time. The bigger issue is that it is extremely unlikely that MaxPreps will identify the “best” 8 teams in the state.  MaxPreps is excellent at ranking teams at the end of the post-season, but not as reliable at the end of the regular season.  And why do MaxPreps rankings differ from the FHSAA Power Rankings, the LAZ index, Joshua Wilson’s FPRI, etc (no disrespect to the latter two)?  Which one is the most accurate?  Without a human element included in the selection process, MaxPreps will identify 8 teams that look the best to their particular variables, weighting, and formula, but this biased process will not guarantee the intent of the Open Division is met – identifying the best of the best.
    • what happens if, your 8-0, district title is secured, your lingering around the 6,7,8 spot in state max preps rankings.  however, you know, your not going to run the gambit of west boca, chaminade, venice, st thomas, columbus, miami central, etc, etc, etc.  and,,,,, coach dumps last 2 weeks of season, 8-2 and fall out of max preps top 8.  and run the table in your playoff division.... is it better to be 8th ranked in max preps and lose at some point in that bracket or  10th ranked and roll thru your division to a state title?  is the class 3405-A,  state champ better than 2nd round loss in open division  someone does this, i can promise it.
