First quarter, Explorers drove solidly only to have a tipped pass turn into an INT. 3 and out for Broncos. Explorers next drive sees 7 on connection between Mendoza and Fitzgerald. Second drive for Explorers leads to a 40yd field goal. Next play, Broncos take kickoff return for 6. Missed PAT.

2nd quarter now. Good game here in Westchester.

Columbus 10 Homestead 6

Columbus offense after looking hot earlier has cooled down a bit as they shift away from the pass to the run. Broncos play calling has been creative. Both Columbus and Homestead looking good against the run. Mostly big play in the secondary moving the needle. Good game. 1 min left in half. Broncos drive just outside red zone with 35 seconds left - TD pass to Mills again

PAT blocked

Broncos 19 Explorers 10

30 seconds left in half

Halftime.  Homestead leads by 9. From what I have seen so far, both teams are solid. Thinking way ahead, at this juncture, the Orlando area team that would give Columbus's defense the most trouble is Lake Mary with they high tempo passing offense.

If they met Columbus in the semifinals or finals, I could see a shootout in the region of the Apopka vs Cypress Bay final in 2012.

Onside fails.

Homestead came to play and make a statement. They did. Homestead could have kneeled it out but ended up scoring on a run play next posession. No excuses there. Coaches need to see the boys finish.

Explorers fall to 6-1. Central next week. We got a lot of coaching up to do to get ready for that.

1:30 left

Homestead 32, Columbus 16

As an experienced QB, Mendoza just made a critical judgement error throwing a pick in the end zone, when the correct play was to throw the ball away. If Homestead can eat clock they likely win this game. Critical possession here for Homestead.

Agreed. This is the worst game I have seen him play in two seasons. No excuses though - the Homestead front has been giving him pressure all game.

And he got banged up quite a bit. Eventually injured on our last series and left the game.

We don't really have a viable backup either. Coach Dunn really need to protect him better.

Let's hope everyone is healthy for next week and Mendoza in particular can shake off this poor performance.

gotta love my young broadcaster though. Trying to rationalize that we only need 2 TDs with successful 2-pt conversions. In 80 seconds. LOL

Where their is life there is hope. UCF gave up 29 unanswered points late in the game last week to give Baylor the win. My wife was very upset being an alum.

Broncos harassed QB all night. Plus pretty much shut down the run. Broncos outcoached explorers with innovative plays. Homestead had many big yardage plays including a kickoff return for a TD which ignited them. Columbus looked pedestrian for pretty much 2 qtrs. Looked like they panicked when they got behind. The faithful Explorer OL got manhandled.
