Who picked TC over DeLand?

3rd quarter...DeLand 31 TC 0

I was the only one in the pick em to get this game right. As we discussed, Rick Darlington nor Jeff Rolson, are not going to lose to a single wing team, especially one that was taught the single wing by Rick Darlington. Just is not going to happen unless: 1. The team has one of the best Offensive Lines in the state; 2. It has at least 3 power 5, running backs in the backfield; 3. It has a QB that can, if required to, hurl the ball downfield accurately.

TC was a solid team. But it never met the above criteria. As in 2021 when Apopka shut them down in the semis, they were doomed by the draw.

Yes, but that game will be far more difficult for DeLand to win. If anything, they are at a natural disadvantage against the current Venice team.

My best bet is you get: Venice vs the winner of Buchholtz/Lakeland in the 4S final.

DeLand could very well win that game if Venice doesn't take them as seriously as they should. Beating Treasure Coast by 31 points at their place is just incredible. If you asked me before the season if Venice was 31 points better than Treasure Coast, I would have laughed, and I still don't think they are. Coach Darlington has DeLand peaking at exactly the right time.  This will be the toughest game of the year for both teams. I think DeLand's offensive line matches up particularly well with Venice's defensive line. If they give TJ Moore time, they will find ways to get Justin Brown, Vic Satler, and Javon Moore open against Venice's powerful secondary and score.

Deland's best chance to beat Venice would be to run the ball effectively and try and eat up the clock, keeping Venice's high powered offense off the field as much as possible. If Deland has to depend on its passing game, they are in deep trouble. Darlington is an offensive genius. So, I would not discount him. But if Venice vs Deland is in our tournament, my chips are on Venice this time.

Sorry SexyBeast, my heart's with Deland, but cold logic says Venice.

Crazy that Darlington can wreck shop for Apopka for years, then go to Alabama and do nothing, then come back to Florida and take some random team and turn them into a title contender overnight.

Makes you wonder why doesn't it?

Maybe his heart's just in Florida, or maybe it's the coaching, or the weather, or the teams he's got to coach in Georgia and Alabama, or ...

Do nothing in Alabama ?  Pretty flippant there Nolebull, even for your low standards. Check if he broke the Alabama season scoring record in one of those loser years ?

Again........take some random team.

Deland has great home grown talent. And whenever they have had great "color blind" coaching they have been a winner.

Random meaning some team who has no history of playoff success. One good year in the last 2 decades. They don’t have a culture of success. That’s a random team.

Yes do nothing. Went 20-14 playing mostly bad teams, and never got past the 2nd round. The problem I noticed on local message boards is a lot of people are delusional. Everything has to be so great and nothing can be criticized or you’re being mean. You have to detach your emotions when discussing reality. Get out of fantasy land. Be truthful even if it doesn’t feel good to.

You don't have a clue about what you're talking about. That region is brutal. Talent-wise, Enterprise was at an extreme disadvantage. There are multiple teams in that region that would win state in FL fairly easily.

Ok you win the delusional Olympics. Please tell me what teams were in their region that would win state here against STA, Miami Central, Chaminade, American Heritage, Venice, Lakeland etc etc?

Alabama is bush league compared to Florida

So 10-3 Auburn and 7-4 Prattville would win state here fairly easy?

What class would they win? Hell Phenix City Central wouldn’t sniff state here.

On paper, DeLand is actually built perfectly to beat Venice because they run the single wing-t offense. If Venice makes one mistake (a fumble, interception, etc,) they could easily take 6 minutes or more off of the clock. If DeLand wins the coin toss I fully expect them to receive first and try to take the first quarter off of the clock.

Venice hasn't seen much of the single wing-t offense. They played Naples in the Spring Game and in the 2022 regular season, who runs slip halfback veer offense (not the same as DeLand, but similar,) and it gave us trouble both times. Also, keep in mind that Naples *didn't* have a legend on the sideline running their offense, DeLand does. Venice's defensive line this year has been their weakness and isn't really set up to stop an offense that will carry the ball 50 times a game. Just food for thought.
