Columbiafan, I don't know what your career goals are, but you have such a passion for football and a pretty impressive knowledge of the game.  If you aren't going to play you may want to look into team management it allows you to work with the team at this level and the next( I have a nephew who is a manager for the Citadel and gets partial scholarship for it.  He played early in high school but was injury plagued but at 6'6" 270 he is now the biggest manager in the country). You may also want to consider sportswriting or broadcasting I'm not sure of your age but follow your passion. Maybe try to cover sports for you school paper.

Sharkbait, I believe he is a senior. He is well know among the Columbia faithful; so it is pretty obvious he has had this passion for awhile. I tend to agree with you: he should follow his passion. It is a blessed individual that gets to get paid for doing something they truly like. Most of us just work for a living ...

im not fully sure yet on what i plan to do but i do plan to be around the team in some capacity next year because even graduated i still have unfinished business as when i orginally signed up before my sophmore year i was motivated to help because i wanted to go to states

i remember being in the stands as a kid but i remember my freshman year with us in second round of the playoffs we were playing bartram trail and were nearly 30 point favorites

i watched the second half from standing next to the tunnel because i couldnt handle watching from the stands after the first half and was desperate for us to get through the game and i tried everything to get the crowd to get into the game during the second half and i felt helpless because it wasent working, i realized right then i was not doing our team any ounce of good as a fan so i wanted to find a way to get with the team in some capacity but wasent sure how, like in january i went to a fundraiser at a nearby grocery store that our team was with people of the community and helped bag groceries and i ended up meeting the head coach of the team, but funny thing was i didnt realize who he was until later, and i didnt realize i had ran into him before at school (because i never was introduced to him) so eventually i got to talking and soon i asked to join up and then boom i was working with the team and have for past 3 years, been through a lot of wins, (and losses which im not used to much :D ) i just hope that moving foward they can finish the job of bringing a championship back to lake city and with the talent on this team and the effort these coaches put in i know sooner or later it will happen, it dont matter who we will have to go through to get it, it will happen, question is when

but i will be there when it does happen and ill probably will be the first person jumping onto the field lol

Columbia ---------  Entertaining the idea of attending college? Are you playing for Columbia now with hopes of playing at the next level? I enjoy your messages as I follow this forum routinely even though some folks may think you are over the top at times. Heck, you're enthusiastic about your team. I think that's a good thing.  ;)

You kinda remind me of a kid I went to school with... He wasn't able to play the game with us but he was very enthusiastic about helping the program in any way.  (He was our game announcer (probably the only student in our county to do it), our JR year and then when a new coach was hired we introduced him to him and he made him the team manager and helped the coach out with breaking down film, all the administrative duties and fund raising stuff.

Kid went to college on his own merit and became some sort of team manager intern at FSU and later got a full time position after graduating at VSU and ended up eventually at UGA under Richt.

I am sure he is still doing it now not sure where but he made a career out of being an enthusiastic participate.

    • I’m not saying it doesn’t occur. What I am saying is that everything is case by case so if you are accusing a specific coach/team of cheating, I would at least like to see the evidence of the accusation. Because if you don’t then you are basically defaming them with gossip
    • Are you saying illegal recruiting does not occur in Florida ?     Wake up and take your blinders off
    • Dang shame. Wonder what it was about. Wonder if the principle was meddling out of his element.    There was a story near me about Land O Lakes High. Before the season, 2 freshman were slap boxing and other kids were filming it. One kid was obviously winning over the other with the kids in the background cheering it on. So when it got leaked, it was interpreted as hazing. As if all the kids in the background were sanctioning it.    Without one second of investigation the principal shut the entire football program down. Varsity season cancelled over 2 freshman slap boxing. It caused a shit storm. Local news swarmed the school. Parents outraged. Protesting outside the office demanding the principal be fired.    They finally asked some quick questions and it was determined to be exactly what it was originally said it was. Football was reinstated but JV missed the first game over it.    The principal was some punk pencil neck who looks like he never played a sport in his life and many people came out and said he had it out for the football program and he was the same way at his old school.    I say all that to say is this a similar case of some pencil neck principal who never played sports trying to undermine and butt in to something that they are way out their element on?
    • Word is, Coach Banks the former head coach was escorted off campus last week after a heated discussion with the principle. from what i have been told this stems from banks talking to the paper about the program.
    • They definitely would have been competitive. They had a really good and really young OL coming back. They also had settled into a pattern of getting plenty of transfers.
