Apopka at Lakeland

Lakeland finally gets a measuring stick game. If the defense can figure out the Apopka offense, they have a shot. If not, it could be a long night. Regardless, I think this is going to be a high scoring game.

I don't believe Apopka and Lakeland have ever met in a regular or post season matchup.

Rick Darlington is a Lakeland grad (1983) and coached at Lakeland in the late 80's/early 90's under Coach Castle.

The game will be webcast:

Final, Lakeland 42-35 over Apopka. Game effectively over when Apopka was intercepted with a minute left. Exciting game marred by penalties. At the end of the day Lakeland had one more bullet than Apopka. Bad Bird made a pretty good call.

Things of note: 1. Lakeland ran the ball very well against Apopka as their OL opened up big holes in the final three quarters. 2. Apopka had its most success passing since the days of Zack Darlington. 3. The lead changed hands frequently after the first quarter; at the end of the first it looked like it would be a defensive struggle, as Apopka was inside the 36 of its own half the entire quarter but held Lakeland to 3. The final three quarters were a shootout.

No shame in the loss. However there are things that need to be worked on.

Was going to go to this game but the 7:30 start and the longer drive with school tomorrow made me switch to winter park. Then school got canceled.  Sounds like I missed a good one.  This Lakeland team if it can get better on defense could be a serious contender.  Can they improve enough to give STA a game.  Not sure but offensively they are very very good

Lakeland defense was worn down in the 4th quarter, but came up with two big stops when they needed. They have to cut out the mistakes (turnovers & penalties).

Definitely an exciting game and I think it gives Lakeland alot of confidence heading into the middle part of the season.

Lakeland plant and viera will be a solid top 3 in region 2

It is I watched some of it after the game was over really late last night.   Lakeland usually keeps their victories up longer ;)

Congrats Lakeland fans!   Apopka is a solid team this year IMO.   Great win.

My question for Lakeland fans...who is #7?   He new this year?   That run in the 4th Q was VERY NICE!

#7 is Antonio Whitehead. He was a QB/receiver at Kathleen last year. Transferred in and has been converted to a receiver at Lakeland.
