Fhsaa Points vs Laz Index vs Max Preps 1A , 2A, 3A, 4A

This is going to take a bit and I only plan on looking at 1A-4A.  Will redo at the end of the year.

1A Region 1

FHSAA 1. Chipley 2. Baker 3. Holmes County 4. Bozeman

Laz   1. Baker 2. Chipley  3. Holmes County 4. Vernon

Max Preps 1. Baker 2. Chipley 3. Holmes County 4. Vernon

Baker beat Chipley and is undefeated.  They should be ahead of Chipley.  Bozeman beat Vernon and both are 3-3 they should be ahead of Vernon.  I would take the Fhsaa over the other 2 because right now they get the right 4 teams in.

Blountstown and Port St Joe play each other.  It should be decided on the field.  The right 4 will get in

thoughts Wildwood is way over ranked by FHSAA points because they have a weak schedule and they are going to keep a deserving team out.  If Pahokee doesn't win one of the last 3 this region could become trash.

Its unfortunate for Williston. My opinion if you are one of the borderline 1A schools. Your best bet might be to move up with this point system. Williston will play a 3A/4A schedule and all teams in this region, except Pahokee, will play a true 1A schedule. Most 1A schools feel Williston has the potential to be a Madison so they are going to have to schedule tough.

ok so after doing 1A and 2A to be honest it is not that bad at the moment.  My main concern is leaving good teams out and letting bad teams in because they won a lot of game vs a very soft schedule.  No system is going to be perfect but we shouldn't leave the good teams out that are deserving.

1A

Chipley over Baker is funny but in the old system Baker might have to travel to Chipley so I don't really care who is seeded 1 or 2 as long as they are both in.  Wildwood getting in is not good and to be a #2 seed is laughable.  Williston is a decent team with a hard schedule and they have Union County and Dixie County left.  Williston would probably beat Wildwood by 20.

2A

Other than a few seeds the only major problem I see is Keswick getting in over anyone especially Indian Rocks.  Keswick is 3-3 with 2 bad teams left.  Keswick might be the worst team in the whole Region. They have 2 games left and should win one and might win both. Indian Rocks has 3 games left and will be an underdog in 2 of them.  Remember you get more points for beating a bad team than losing to a good team.  Indian Rocks will probably have to pull an upset or they will be watching the worst team in the region make the playoffs why possibly the best team sits home.

 

I will look at 3A and 4A tomorrow.

Oxbridge clearly should be #1 and it is not close.  MCC not getting in over a bad Pierson Taylor team with a weak schedule would be a travesty.

every team in this region could make a case to get in except St Pete Catholic

looks like St Andrew's is benefiting from a weak schedule and is a 35 point underdog to Benjamin who is currently out of the playoffs.  Good thing is they play this week.    However bad news is I could see Benjamin winning by a bunch then losing last two games to Key West and Kings Academy and not getting in over St Andrews.

major blunders right now

Oxbridge a #3 seed and probably the best or second best team in the state.

Pierson Taylor in the playoffs and MCC out

St Andrews as a 2 seed and Benjamin out who will probably put a running clock on them this week.

So far, then, 3A is the most problematic pending your 4A analysis.

Raines is clearly #1 and South Walton should not be in the playoffs.  Gadsen tougher schedule is keeping them out.

very tough region.  Can probably make a case for 6 teams being in the top 10 in the state in 4A.  BTW, University, Key West, Gulliver, Glades Central, Monsignor Pace.  I would like to see BTW make the playoffs but part of me thinks the Fhsaa won't make changes if they do because they won't see how screwed up the points are.  Obviously this will be the biggest failure of the system if they don't make it.

So if i saw correctly the biggest blunders from 1-4a was MCC and BTW missing playoffs even though both still can?

4A overall thoughts

Not bad so far other than Booker T Washington not making the playoffs.   If they miss the playoffs there has to be change.  If not I still hope they tweak it because it needs adjusted.  I think they need to go back to districts in 1-4A and tweak the points a little then it would be 10 times better than before.  If not then this is a failure.  Problem is those small schools are not going to want to go back to districts because 95% of them are scared to play really good teams and want no part of being in a district with a BTW, Pahokee, Madison County, Oxbridge, Cocoa, etc.  make them be in a district.  it is the only fair way to decide a true state champion.

yes both can still get in

 

Bad teams currently in that shouldn't be Wildwood, Keswick, Pierson Taylor and St Andrews.  Cocoa Beach is really bad but so are all the other teams in that region fighting for the #4 spot.  Also maybe Keystone Heights

 

Really good teams currently out BTW, MCC.  The others that are out would probably be out soon other than Indian Rocks.  they could win the region and are currently out.
