Figure I'd get another subject up and running with the schedules close to releasing. So what are some of the best out-of-region games this season? However you decide the borders of the regions, I don't know lol but I'm sure there are some good ones.

KeemD321,

I'm hearing that Rockledge and CCC are hammering out details for CCC to come back to Rockledge in 2018 and then Rockledge go to CCC in 2019 and 2020.  Rockledge wants it to be a gentlemens agreement, but CCC is demanding a signed contract.

Well that would be their final game if that's the case.

So it looks like Rockledge and CCC aren't playing this season. Other than the team's I already talked about....they will playing their KOC against Raines, playing West Orange and Nation's Christian in the regular season along with Viera, Southridge, and Cocoa. West Orange took Manatee spot and Nation's Christian took CCC spot.

The FHSAA has encouraged all schools to use signed contracts now. There have been too many issues on gentlemen's agreements over the years. I would like to think the FHSAA wants to eventually put a full stop to the gentlemen's agreements.

Rockledge and CCC just couldn't come to an agreement. My understanding is that Rockledge just didn't want to go to Clearwater this year considering their jam packed schedule. It's pretty hefty, so I understand not wanting to head on a 4 hour ride west in the middle of the season.

Rockledge vs Viera will be a classic this year.

Carol City is playing Rickards.  Is there a connection between the schools?

Rickards had 5 losses last year, but the combined records of those teams was 59-8, including state champions Raines and Madison County.  And they played state champion Northwestern in a preseason game.  Props to the coach for not being afraid to take some knocks.  Seems like Rickards has been making steady progress.  Nice to have a coach who has invested 5+ years in the program.

Will that be a regular season game ?

    • Dillard - I'm not sure that hiring a HS football coach is the same as bringing a student on board the team. I think that any school can hire any football coach that they want any time they want. They can even hire a football coach that is currently coaching at another school. Where did you find that it's illegal?
    • IMO the FHSAA should simply return to the previous rules that if a student transfers from one school district to another they would be allowed to in accordance with Florida law. However, that student could only transfer for academic reasons and would have to remain out of sports for the first full season of that particular sport. As I understand it, when the Florida Legislature passed the law that allowed students to transfer anywhere and at anytime they had academics in mind. It was a law that allowed students to transfer from a poor performing school academically to a good performing school academically and not for the explicit purpose of playing a game. I wonder if the Florida Legislature fully understands what happens when students are allowed to transfer explicitly for sports and how some of those transfers seriously disturb the natural flow of events with the sports team of those schools. To make matters worse they are now proposing that some high school students, that just happen to be good at playing a game, be paid for their participation. Truly amazing.
    • In the words of Chris Rainey...
    • Independent contractors....   What will go wrong with this?
    • I seriously can't remember how many times I had to do that very thing. Like Nolebull said in another discussion, the kids know kids from other schools and where the "hot hand" is. I never entertained discussions with kids or parents of kids from other schools. I know we lost some good ones because of it but I am ok with that.
