Ribault is my sleeper, I think they benefit from Suwannee being slightly down this year to take that district and do something similar to Raines last year and beat suwaneee twice and get to third round where I pick them to face Wakulla

5A was very hard for me to do .  I know I have a wildcard or two in my top 10 (West Florida, Merritt Island) but that is what I came up with.

Truthfully I wasent real impressed with 5A until i took the class apart and realized they got some pretty good teams, maybe not as good as 6-8a but they have some decent teams in there, as for those 2 im not as familiar with them, what about them caught your attention?

West Florida was only a 6-5 team last year but they did play a fairly sound schedule.  There season ended in the 1st round 39-42 to a pretty good Rickards team.  They return 12 starters from last year, 8 of them being on Defense. Lots of Seniors returning (including the QB) and from what I saw they have some beef on both the OL and DL.  I think they will be stronger this  year and possibly pull an upset in the 1st round.

Merritt Island also returns 12 starters with 6 on Offense and 6 on Defense.  Lots of Seniors and a sound DL.  This is a program that knows success, went 8-4 last year eventually falling to the potent Offense of Bishop Moore 28-49.  I am not going to say they get by Bishop Moore but they probably keep it a little closer than last year and there is no shame on your season ending to the 2015 5A State Champions.  All around should be a sound team.

Good insight there

Only real difference I saw in list was Suwannee over Ribault, Suwannee losing their coach plus I heard they lost few players to transfer made me decide to pick Ribault to.win district, what your thoughts on Ribault?

Basically going by the last year result.  You have more insight on that than me.  I will say this,  it's pretty obvious that the best teams in 5a are in region 4, but the best teams in 5a north would have had trouble winning region 3.  Jesuit and Dunbar got no respect last year.

Really even though they lost a lot I see wakulla as best in the 5a north, what can you tell me about region 3?

The teams in this area all like to run the ball and all have good defenses, therefore a lot of low scoring games.

Jesuit is on top until proven otherwise.  You saw my thread on Southeast and Hardee - this region is actually full of teams that in any given year can win it all.  The biggest challenge with all of them:  Keeping a coach!

    • This is probably going to impact several different schools. Sumner will probably lose several key players to transfer. This means some schools are going to be getting unforeseen boosts as well. You'd assume that the schools in that immediate area might benefit. But, in this day and age, some players could end up far away. Tampa Robinson lost their head coach to USC, and their top recruit transferred...to Chaminade in Broward County.
    • As reported by Josh on this site, Sumner's head football coach, Alonzo Ashwood, was dismissed.  No reason for the dismissal was given, but it certainly wouldn't have been based on the team's on-the-field performance.   I've got a hunch the coach crossed one of those pesky rule lines, perhaps one too many times, and left the principal with little choice.   Again, just speculation on my part.   It'll be interesting to see what repercussions this has for the Stingrays.   Here's a link to Josh's article: http://floridahsfootball.com/2024/05/20/alonzo-ashwood-dismissed-at-sumner-after-four-seasons-per-report/
    • Vero’s offense struggled the entire game, the lone score came on a scoop and score via a fumble. White showed the characteristics of a presumed first year starter. His ability is there no doubt, he’ll just need to settle into the starting role.    West Boca was much more effective- leaning on their 4* running back Javian Mallory, can see them having another good year. They would have probably won the game had it gone a little longer.
    • If all the talk from the head coach about Dillard being bigger and better this year and how last year in his first year was a trial and error for him, it better be an easy dub. Lol
    • As For my Dillard panthers , this will be a huge test for us before things crank up for real in the next few months.    right now Dillard will be coming in this game with a lot of questions. Whose gonna be the Starting QB after a lot of controversy in last year playoff lost to ely where the fans and some of the players felt the sophomore back up should have replaced the junior starter after constantly turning the ball over.    the panthers also will be debuting a new OC & a new DC for the 2024 season. Last year while the defense was average to above average. Our offense appeared to be very basic & vanilla with No real offensive schemes to get the playmakers open.    we’ve gotten a few transfers in & promoted a few great players from JV to varsity. & with this being year 2 of Dillards new head coach & being placed in a new district I’m interested to see the adjustments & progressions in this season vs last season.    this has the make to be a very good game if the weather permits for all 4 quarters, but until proven otherwise I’m going to take the knights in this game in a final score of    DILLARD 21 MONARCH 28 what do you guys think of this matchup @nolebull813 @FBGUY1989 @cribboy305
