Cocoa # 26 in the Nation"

Viera was getting lots of love when Gonzaga beat Dematha last month. Then both Gonzaga and DeMartha started to lose and POOF , love is gone. Beat South Fork 64-7 and even dropped in Maxpreps 12 or so spots. Amazing how perception changes and we both know how well we compare to Cocoa. Easily could have won that game and with a win at Gonzaga we would probably be looking at top 10 right now.

Wow, just looked Gonzaga dropped 61 spots for losing to a very good Good Counsel team. Rated #269 now with a 7-2 record. Guess this happens in D.C. every year, they all beat up on each other and brings schools like Viera down with them.

Gonzaga plays St Johns (rated #66 by maxpreps) this week. If Gonzaga wins it should make them #1 in Maryland so our SOS should rise again, IF they win.

Keep thinking of what if... in the Cocoa game. Two missed field goals, dropped balls, prayer answered on botched hold in 2OT for Cocoa. Also hurricanes costing us games against MI and Osceola.  A special season could of been even more so.

Also think Maxpreps is a little Cali bias, 7 teams in top 25.   Santa Margarita has 3 losses and rated #15 in country. Need to put a rule in - 3 losses drops a team to minimum to a high of #50. I don't care if you lose to #1, #2, #3 you shouldn't be in top 50. I am not a Cali hater, but come on. I do think Mater Dei is top 2 in country. And SJB is top 10, but the rest are hanging on their coat-tails.

Mater Dei is best team in nation this year but yeah i agree with the bias but then again it's a computer poll not human so i can't understand where some these results come from

Viera #138????????????????????  with double OT loss to Cocoa.  And noticed St. Johns DC is #38 who got beat by Gonzaga DC; who Viera went to DC and dominated Gonzaga 21 - 6 (should have been 40 - 6, 3 TO's across midfield and 3 missed FG's)

Gonzaga plays St Johns this week???

You win or lose...in order to beat a team for the first time in your history, you must capitalize when the chance comes

Viera should focus on winning a state title. Being in 7A, if you do that the National Ranking, (since the 7A path is tough and could involve beating St. Thomas), will take care of itself. Lose and you have no basis to complain. Viera is a good team. How good is yet to be determined.

Looks like Viera has Lakeland and Plant in that region. May have to play both to get out. I don't follow them so my question is it possible ?

Viera took Cocoa to the limit and lost a game they could easily have won. I am pretty sure they are better than Plant. Lakeland/Viera would be an interesting game.

If the 7A winner is any team other than St. Thomas, that team will end up high on the National Rankings at the end of the season. It seemed to me that the posts above were somewhat jumping the gun.

People often forget that a High School National Title is a fiction anyway. There is not enough connectivity among the teams in the USA to properly evaluate and rank them. I do agree that sometimes there is one team that stands out. However, to come up with 10, 25, 50 or 100 teams in order, is a fiction. But it is the way we are. We strive to quantify that which cannot be accurately quantified.

As for Cocoa, rankings don't matter as long as you win the last game of the season. Win that one and I'm sure they would trade a number in a poll for a ring.

Can't see Cocoa losing to anyone in 4A. Bolles moving up to 5A and BTW missing play-offs were the only teams that could give them a game. How they dominate the competition will determine their legacy. I'm sure Wilkinson will have the team playing up to its potential.

bolles wouldnt have beaten them with last year team and they were stronger last year

at this point Raines and university school only ones who wont get running clocked in 4a

maybe glades if they have really stepped up but to prove that they need to beat pahokee this week

Thanks for correction on Gonzaga beating St. Johns.  I must of on my 10th bourbon and been getting Dematha and St. Johns confused.  Hec, Dematha ranked about #380.  Thanks for correction.  Unfortunately Cocoa #26 ranking did not last long.  Myself and many were wrong.  Thought game would be contested and then Cocoa would start to pull away.  WRONG.  Raiders came to play.
