Who Is This FL Legend in the Photo? Fred Taylor

It is Fred Taylor of Glades Central.  He started playing as linebacker.  Was one of the most highly recruited running backs in the country in his senior year, when he rushed for 1,700 yards and 22 touchdowns.  He was also an outstanding sprinter. Starred collegiately at Florida and in the NFL with Jacksonville. Was the 23rd player in NFL history to surpass 10,000 yards rushing in a career.

Taylor never played in a state title game while a Raider.  In his senior year in 1993, Taylor was running wild in a 3A state semi at Lake Wales and the Raiders were up 35-14 by halftime.  Taylor got knocked out of that game by a brutal hit and the Raiders experienced a meltdown in the second half.  Lake Wales ended up winning 40-35.  2 years earlier, Haines City knocked the Raiders out the playoffs.  So, there is some history between Polk County and the Muck....just like with Rockledge

Too young to remember lol

Lucky you LOL.

Coach Casco stepped down after that loss.  I cannot imagine what it was like to be in Belle Glade the week after that game. Folks must have required counseling.  The Raiders had not won a title in 20 years and they must have been thinking "this is the year."

Ask some of the old-timers about it...bet they remember it in vivid detail.
