  1. It is funny that Lakeland people are saying that they don't recruit when the entire "High School Free Agency" bill that was introduced by representatives of Polk County was because the FHSAA punished Lakeland for a couple of kids transferring for athletic reasons. And the fact that our state legislature hates public schools.

  2. Btw I'll say this as well If you hate my rankings so much or think i do such a crap job, do your own damn rankings I put in hours each week when I could be doing plenty of other stuff, if you don't agree with something that's one thing but to imply i have no idea what I'm talking about or that i didn't put in effort is a load of bullshit considering I don't see anyone else on this entire forum doing a statewide rankings even up to 25 and I've been ranking 80 teams Even if you don't agree with what i did you can at least show respect for the effort i put into my rankings!

  4. So I just got a response from Frank Beasley at FHSAA. I had written him explaining some of the confusion with the posted formula on FHSAA and asked for clarification and he responded by posting a link to the posted formula in question. lol. So back to square 1

  6. Can everyone just post their picks and not quote Josh’s first post? Just post your winners. And please type them in the order he has them listed. It’s alot easier to tally it up

  7. Save the reason's why UCF isn't deserving for the excuse thread... NCAA recognizes UCF's national championship in addition to Alabama's UCF, after all the pomp and circumstance, is a national champion. According to the 2018 record book released last week, the Knights are listed - with Alabama as a team that finished the season No. 1. UCF, which finished 13-0 last season with a win over Auburn in the Peach Bowl, finished atop the Colley-Matrix, one of the computer rankings recognized by the NCAA. The NCAA, per The Orlando Sentinel, recognizes the teams that finish atop major polls, including the Colley-Matrix. The Knights and their undefeated season have been a storyline all offseason since the Peach Bowl win over Auburn. https://www.al.com/sports/2018/08/ncaa_recognizes_ucfs_national.html

  8. I know it’s before most everyone’s time, but this was a huge rivalry in the late 70’s through the 80’s. Both teams were competing for state championships back then, with Merritt Island winning back to back in 78, 79. and Vero winning it in 81...

  9. So say Oakleaf went 9-1 with Columbia being only loss They would be treated as a 100% winning percentage when calculating the records of Columbia opponents? No, They would be treated as 100% when calculating their win percentage as Columbia's opponent and Columbia would lose a Win in Oakleaf's OOP

they did not beat Auburn before it was selected. No reason to select UCF that year. If they had beaten Auburn in a regular season game they probably would have been selected. Play a harder schedule. Take your 2 for 1's. Or complain about it until you get a trophy. That's the new generation.

  13. They were the only undefeated team in the nation that year and they beat the only team (Auburn) to beat both participants in the Power 5 Invitational. As far as UCF fans are concerned, the Power 5 Invitational was the Consolation Game that year. The Power 5 Cartel will find a reason not to include UCF in the CFP this year; that's a sure bet.

  14. Well then, our whole society must be ludicrous. It's because of a little thing called loyalty, which sometimes gets in the way of "playing the best players." All you bosses out there, tomorrow go into your workplace and announce you are demoting and promoting people based strictly on their level of talent, ignoring tenure, and see what anarchy prevails. And them imagine doing that every year. The real world does not work like this crazy little world of transferring we have going on right now. We have created an expectation in our young people that if you work hard you will "get the job." Well, we all know it's not that simple. Maybe that's why we are hearing stories of young people quitting jobs because they haven't been promoted within six months of starting, leaving disappointed. "Paying your dues" is very much a part of the real world, like it or not We like to blame the FHSAA for not doing its job, just as some like blaming the government for not doing its job. As coaches and supervisors, its all about taking personal responsibility for our decisions. Our jobs are not simply to play the best players. Anyone can do that. The truly masterful hs coach knows how to build a team and build character in his players. And understands how bumping a tenured player for that hot new transfer might be great for the short term, but disastrous for the long term. How many of you out there would like working for a boss with a track record like that, knowing you might get demoted next year so that energetic young intern can have your job? Do I sound crazy? Maybe so. But I say with the utmost confidence that some of our FL hs coaching legends of the past would not be waiting on the FHSAA to tell them what they can/should do or not do. These guys had a moral compass they followed. They made decisions based on what was the "right thing to do"...not necessarily what everyone else was doing.

  16. Well I feel like last year they deserved it more than Notre Dame but the NCAA won't allow a group of 5 team to get in because they want all 4 teams in playoffs to be big brands to ensure they maximize profit in the 3 games during the playoffs They don't want to risk a group of 5 team making the finals because it would mean lower viewership (and money) which is another reason they are hesitant to add more teams to playoffs The more teams involved the less control the NCAA has over who makes finals which can guarantee them the largest profit

  17. In 2017 they barely beat South Florida and Memphis the last two games of the year. It was also there first time going undefeated. They didn’t deserve a shot. Last year if the QB doesn’t get hurt they actually would have had a chance to make it. Not saying they would have but the chances would have been far greater. I feel if they run the tables this year convincingly they get in. Problem is they have no really good win on the schedule. They need some help.

  18. You think so? I personally think the fact they aren't in a power 5 conference (or have a bunch of Championships from a million years ago like Notre Dame) they will not be given a chance no matter how much they win, they could beat Clemson and bama by 35 and would still get left out by the NCAA, oh I mean playoff committee LMAO

  22. I have always had respect for Lakeland. Last season I made a thread that demonstrated how the Naughts did not inherit a lot of highly rated transfers to win their state title. Nor have they this year, really. It was the sheer number of transfers they got this year that got my attention. I have to question what south FL powers Lakeland has beaten of late outside St Thomas. Some of the south FL teams Lakeland has invited to come play are far from powers. I also question how your data proves in no uncertain terms that Miami-Dade teams recruit better than Lakeland. The number of highly-rated players on those MD teams may simply be a function of the relative numbers of talented players available in Miami-Dade. There are a lot more 3- and 4-star players floating around Miami-Dade than there are in Polk County simply because MD dwarfs PC in terms of population. Let's be real. If a couple more 4-star players showed up on Lakeland's doorstep this year, would they have been turned away? As it is, a couple of PC teams were highly impacted (Kathleen and Lake Gibson). Kathleen lost at least 7 players to Lakeland as best I can tell. I would challenge that the relative impact of those transfers was as great or greater than the impact on any MD team. So, maybe Lakeland's lack of high star power has as much to do with "opportunity" as it does with recruiting efficacy. My issue nowadays is not recruiting or transfers, per se. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt concerning recruiting unless I have proof otherwise. And a coach cannot necessarily control if players want to come play for him. But a coach can control who plays. How a coach today can look himself in the mirror and think it is sportsmanlike to win a state title by playing upwards of 20 transfers(some of them in front of kids who have paid their dues). ....they have their lost their moral compass.

  24. Just because a team resides in SFL don't mean they are any good Most these "crap" North Florida teams as you describe them would blast teams like Piper and Northeast Just because those 2 are in South Florida don't mean they are any damn good

Many schools, including a couple of elite SEC programs, have claimed "fake" titles over the years, Bama being one of them. I'm a long time Gator fan, but I'm not delusional enough to believe the Gators could beat the UCF team of the past three years.

When do you go for 2?

Totally. I've always pulled double duty as JV HC and a Varsity assistant and I'm the one who advocates going for two. Maybe I'm just too aggressive but I think it puts other teams in a bind, especially if you're good near the goal line, because it changes the way they have to call plays. Plus, if you go 1/2 you still have 14 points. At least that's how I look at it.

Are there any schools we can be sure would turn players away (other than if the school was at capacity and had to turn them away)? Coaches can tell kids they have to earn their way and bust their ass just like everyone else. They can tell them nothing is promised, that they have to earn playing time through proving themselves. But, when/if that all has been done, why wouldn't they play the best players? Are you suggesting they should say something along the lines of "look, you've been out here busting your ass just like everyone else, and you've clearly outplayed the others at your position, but, you transfered in, so I can't play you"? That seems ludicrous!

They still don't have a National Championship game; it's a Power 5 Invitational. This is almost as ridiculous as when professional baseball wouldn't allow black players to play in the "major leagues". They still claimed the title of "World Champions". You can't be a national champion if you exclude half the teams that play your sport.
