Columbus is KOC

Makes sense.  If you got several elite teams on your schedule, you may as well get the reps in early.  Season won't going to get much easier, ideally all the way to TC .  I have been following, and telling people to look out for the ThunderWolves since they were playing in the Independent Gold Coast Football Conference.... Amazing how much the program has grown in a couple years.

I'm finishing up my Class 3A Preview and will be posting it in another week or so; however, Region 4 in Class 3A is just insane.  Oxbridge, Chaminade, American Heritage Delray, Westminster are 4 very good programs. All 4 teams had good cores coming back and have added some key transfers. I don't know whose coaching Westminster, but Chaminade/Oxbridge/AHD have very good coaches.  All 4 teams will have highly competitive schedules. It blows my mind that two of these teams will be knocked out in round 1.

Whoever represents the South in 3A this year will of gone through some big-time small school powerhouses to get there.

Why wouldn't you want Friday night lights?

Variety of reasons really. 1) you play Thursday, Friday is a great day for guys to recover and to be at school to be further examined by athletic trainers. 2) we have a deal with ESPN Radio to air our games so it helps to play games on Thursday so they can pick up another marquee game on Friday nights.

Moreso reason #1 though.

I second that.  Stadium is a hidden gem(hidden-not for much longer) !

Definitley not much longer! Within the next 26 hours it won't be anymore! We're the host site for the Canes scrimmage tomorrow so if they bring a great fanbase (which I'd imagine they would) then it should no longer be a hidden gem!

My philosophy is I hate short weeks, like 2 hitting days Tuesday/ Wednesday Monday condition, Thursday walk through. I guess ESPN is a tough to disappoint but I hate hitting on Mondays and missing the film/weights. Just my personal opinion, but my way ain't the best though.

I find Saturdays are best for Coaches to prepare for Monday, do stats, make scout cards, put together scouting reposts, complete self tendacy report.

But you are right short weeks mean going on Saturdays and pushing everything forward.

Being on ESPN would be worth it though

The first thing that caught my eye with the scheduling is there seems to be a lot more Thursday night games for 2016.

Posted

Thanks Broward,

You are right about the amount of Thursday games this year, as this year we are using Coconut Creek as our home field, it is tough scheduling when you do not have you own stadium, although Principle Neer is fighting to try and get one built at the school within the next couple of years. It is an ambitious plan but I wish him the best of luck in getting the funds raised. I see that Monarch has 5 games on Thursday nights this year.

Be interesting this year if they can make any strides this year to be competitive, but K Ward the starting quarterback from last year has transferred out so right now in the spring it does appear to be another long year for the Knights.

Man....Monarch is still struggling to get that field built.  I was driving in the Monarch area a few days ago and noticed a few students had a sign accepting donations for lights at Monarch High School.  I assumed the lighting donations were for the football stadium, but it sounds like they still do not even have a location ( do they even have the land?) for the stadium.  I would think before you even think about the lights you need  stadium/blueprints etc...Hopefully they are close...

That area - Coconut Creek/Coral Springs has had some good teams the last few years (Monarch 2013/2014, Coral Springs 2014, Coconut Creek 2015 - all within 3 miles or 10 minutes of each other) but all have struggled to maintain consistency.

Coaches leave , kids leave and when both of those happen simultaneously it can unfortunately be a big setback.  Coconut Creek is a new and  improving AYFL program but it has to be hard for a kid to want to go to a school that has no home field and coming off a 2 win season.

I have seen Monarch at a few 7-v-7 events this year... you hope Monarch can build some chemistry and confidence this spring. I have included the 2016 Monarch tentative schedule below. Could be challenging.... Still early, but I think realistically a .500 season would be a step in the right direction for the Knights coming off a 2-8 season in 2015...

2016 Monarch Football Schedule

08/18/2016  @ Cypress Bay  - Preseason

08/26/2016  @ Hollywood Hills

09/01/2016  vs. Stranahan

09/09/2016  @ Miramar

09/15/2016  vs. JP Taravella

09/30/2016  @ Piper

10/06/2016  vs. Dillard

10/13/2016  vs. Coral Springs

10/21/2016  @ Deerfield Beach

10/28/2016   vs. Stoneman Douglas

11/04/2016   @ Hallandale

I show both teams with 10 regular season games, presently.

Agree. I saw that as well... possibly/likely pre-season or spring. I do emphasize " chatter" in that one.

There is a couple of hiccups in scheduling out there. The big one I saw via the Sun Sentinel was the Flanagan @ Central ( T. Powell) Aug. 26th game. Apparently Central also has @ East Ridge (Clermont) scheduled for that day...

Yup. SS list not their best work. Sometimes they showed School A hosting School B and then School B hosting School A - on the same day. Other times they reported School A hosting School B on Week 2, and then hosting them again Week 3.

MIA Central is going to ER. Contracts are signed for it and all.

    • Nolebull, You are making a good argument for what the rule ought to be or why the rule ought to be changed.   I'm telling you what the rule is.  Interestingly, I witnessed first hand the FHSAA deal with a case that was very similar to the (presumably, hypothetical) one you just described.  A family provided a kid with a bed for the night because that kid had an unfortunate family situation that would have left him homeless for the night had a teammate's family not stepped up and given him a place to stay for the night.  Yep, you got it, impermissible benefit.  Coach and school penalized.  The difficulty is coming up with rules that can't be taken advantage of.  Where do you draw the line?   If paying for an Uber is OK, why can't you just buy the kid a car instead?  More convenient for all parties.  If you can buy a kid a meal, why can't you take his family grocery shopping and let them stock up?  Or, better yet, just give then a gift card and let them spend the money as they please.  What do you do when one school offers up a $1,000 gift card, but another school is willing to give the kid a $2,000 gift card?  Do we really want to turn high school sports into professional sports?
    • Some kids NEED to transfer to get in the best position to change the trajectory of their entire life. Could literally save their life. Difference between going to college and being stuck in your neighborhood getting lost to streets.    And I can only speak for myself, but I’m more interested in a at-risk kid changing his situation for the better in hopes of saving his life than your favorite high school team losing a game because he transferred from your favorite school.
    • I wouldn’t be so critical of the FHSAA if they didn’t lie and say they give 2 craps about student athletes. I wish people would just be honest. But I guess if they were honest, it would mess up their hustle.
    • Wait are you saying there is a rule that bars an adult mentor who coaches young men a sport from helping a struggling student athlete and his family with transportation? Whoa that’s next level crazy.    “Hey coach I’m on the side of the road and almost got hit. I’m miles from school and it’s 110 degrees out. Can you get me a ride?” ”Sorry. Some turds 6 hours away in Gainesville said I can’t. Hope you don’t get hit or pass out.”
    • Say what you want, justify it however you want, wish the rules weren't what they are, but there is no question that a coach or other school representative paying for Uber rides for kids playing sports is a violation of the existing FHSAA rules.  Period.  And Teddy Bridgewater may be or have been an elite athlete, may be or become an excellent high school football coach, and/or may have his heart in the right place, but tweeting out a message to the world that you have done something that undoubtedly constitutes a violation of the rules is just plain stupid.
