Rockledge escapes a nail biter with Satellite 13-12.

They were without their starting QB. I'm assuming he got hurt in the Cocoa game but he didn't dress for the game at all. Flashbacks of last season if he's not healthy next week. Could be in for a rude awakening.

Injuries are part of the game and most teams have to endure them.  Whether a QB, RB, LB whatever if you lose a "SPECIAL" player it is a game changer as you don't have a clone on the bench.  That QB for Rockledge is terrific as is the one for Vero and it is definitely understandable when teams struggle without one of their STARS.

There's a rumor going around that Venice might be fined for scoring 87 points.

VIF, can you please give us some context on this game?  How many of those points were scored in the second half (running clock, right?)?   Did the Venice coach leave the starters in the whole game?   Is there some bad blood between these two teams that most of us would not be aware of that might help explain the final score?

At this point, I would not be in favor of a fine. Football karma will take care of this in due time.

Venice scored on the third play of the game with a fumble returned by Damon Wilson, and it was all downhill from there. They scored over, and over, and over again, and never took out their starters until the waning minutes of the fourth quarter. There was a moment with about 30 seconds to go before halftime where Venice was up 56-10, and they tried a trick play on a double-fake reverse to Alvin Johnson that went 65 yards for a touchdown. They went for 2  4 times and got it when they were up big. Elliot Washington returned 3 kickoffs for touchdowns, two in the second half. Brutal.

What angered me was Venice constantly going for 2. They were winning by 70 points and still tried to run it up. No class from the coaching staff. The worst part, though, was the end of the game. Coach Hepler and Coach Peacock refused to shake hands and instead argued at the 50 yard-line. Coach Hepler called Peacock a "cocky jackass" and told him that he was a horrible role model for his kids and staff, and that he should be ashamed of himself for what happened. Peacock told him that Venice had no back-up kicking team and that they had no choice but to go for 2 every time.  Hepler than told him that he would never show such disdain for the game of football that Coach Peacock did. Some kids from both sides got into it and there was a short scuffle at about the 40 near the far-left goal post that the refs broke up. Foul language was abundant, and I heard some racial slurs being used on the field directed toward those of African-American and Hispanic descent. I heard, "You ****** are too weak to play football with us!" And Sp*** can't read the English playbook!  Absolutely disgraceful day for the game of American football. The racial words alone warrant a fine against the athletic department. Hopefully, the young men on the field weren't too affected by this and are able to move on. Not good that adults they look up to have to conduct themselves this way. We will move on and be better from this.

Also want to make sure that this is absolutely crystal-clear, since someone put a "crying face" on my previous post. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT condone the use of racial slurs to describe someone that looks different than myself. I learned Spanish to near-fluency in high school and am continuing to study it today in college. As such, I have had the pleasure of interacting with many wonderful Hispanic Americans and I can tell you, @Ray Icazathey are some of the nicest and most gracious people I have ever met. I was extremely frustrated on Friday night at the kind of language I was hearing. Makes me feel like the clock is ticking backwards.

Thanks for clarifying what took place. Now it makes sense why there are rumors of a fine. Sad to hear that all of that took place.

Sir, my sad face wasn't a reflection of you or your values rather disappointment in the play, conduct, sportsmanship and discipline of the Venice football team during this particular game.   Please don't read more into than that.

I am sorry that the game devolved into what it did.

Ray, for what it's worth, that's the way I took it as well (i.e., the way you explained it).  Just a faster way to say, "Wow, that's really sad that all of those things happened and were said."

Does this forum have a dark mode?  These bright white screens are sort-of glaring.  Web browser dark plugins don't seem to work on this site for some reason.

Ask and you shall receive. In the top right corner there will be a moon icon that you can tap to turn on dark mode. If you want it back to white it will show a sun icon on top.
