Looks like ESPN is getting ready to pick up Venice @ Miami Northwestern week 3. The game has been moved to Saturday instead of Friday and will be played at 6:00 pm. Can't wait! @cribboy305 @Jullian @MC Rockets

The West better be ready for a dog fight. This will be a very far cry from the Venice team your Bulls saw last season. In 2023 Venice is fielding:

  • Their best offensive line in school history.
  •  Most experienced running back room in school history.
  • Extremely solid QB duo in transfers Jadyn Glasser and Ryan Downes.
  • The return of all 3 of our starting linebackers from last season.
  • The return of Ryan Matulevich, Jackson Scott, Ashari Charles, and Adam Papantonakis at receiver, as well as impact transfers Jayce Barksdale and Charles Lester.
  • A very powerful secondary led by general consensus #1 corner in the class of 2024 Charles Lester, and the return of starters Charles Fleming and Deylen Platt.
  • Defensive line without a linebacker playing DT. Led by IMG transfer Ryan Daly, one of the top DT prospects in the class of 2024 and David Galloway, who took some snaps at tackle last year before Kintigh returned.

Venice is going to be a very tough customer. Best of luck to your Bulls CribBoy!

That's going to be difficult. Not impossible, but a very steep hill to climb.

Dillard’s defense has kept them in both of their last two meetings with STA. Their offense needs to do a better job of taking care of the ball and pouncing on STA’s mistakes (as few as they may be) whenever they can. Also, special teams play have killed Dillard against STA. Need to have better coverage from their kicking team to avoid starting inside their own 20.

Darter is right it’s gonna be a very steep hill it’s good we get them in the middle close to the end of the season so by then we will know exactly what type of team we have & what we’re capable of.

but like Venice said and I agree with these last two meetings Dillard has gave sta a hard time and a competitive game on the defensive end, it’s been our offense or lack there of that has did us in.

but hey we will see I’m excited for this new chapter.

see yall boys stacked this why the suburban metro thing was big mistake. we wanna see venice play homestead/jones/sta come post szn.

That’s true now but we’re not like this every year. For all of our overall successful seasons, we have only 3 state championships. Last year Venice would have gotten their heads beaten in by 24+ points by Homestead, STA, Central, etc. because our offense was almost completely anemic.

This year’s Venice team should win 4S with relative ease. And for the record, the name STA makes Venice folk need a diaper change. Lol

If you ask me the whole metro vs suburban thing should’ve never happen. Getting to a state title is extremely hard to do unless you are a national powerhouse who gets 15+ transfers in yearly.

but even then it don’t hit the same you got a bunch of kids with no loyalty or no love for the program but more of a monkey see monkey do move in hopes they can get a free ride championship out of it.

sad part is that’s exactly what it takes now to get there because if it’s just zoned in talent you’re working with in your in a district with STA,CENTRAL,VENICE, or chaminade you’re getting your head beat in every year.

Agree with you. We have had MORE than our fair share of transfers this year. Something like 9 or 10 already. Insane. If there was ever a Venice team that could have beaten STA in a playoff game, either this upcoming 2023 squad or 2021 would have been the candidates to do it.

Hope Dillard beats them but it’s going to be tough. Your offense has to do a better job of helping your defense stay off the field. No more silly turnovers or going 3-and-out in under a minute of game time. Protect the ball and score every time you have the opportunity to do so. Your defense is more than capable of keeping you in it and have proven this in 2 meetings already. But it’s almost impossible to stop STA’s offense IF Dillard barely even has time to get a drink before they have to run back to the field. Have to do a better job protecting the ball to have a chance.

Talking to my inside sources and seeing them at practice Dillard is gonna surprise a lot of people this upcoming year. We have a lot of huge talent no one knows about , that’s coming up from jv and little league.

and we finally have a head coach with some fire and aggressiveness & demanding everything our players have and if you’re not willing to give all you got effort and determination then he gave them the free range to leave.

And those are not the type of players we need on our team.

That’s terrific news sir, and agree even more with your assessment that having a coach with fire is important to moving forward. Slow progress is always better than no progress and you will never beat a team like STA while staying in neutral. Looking forward to your collision with STA and fingers crossed for a round 2, preferably with the Panthers smashing STA’s 20 year home playoff winning streak to pieces!! Go Panthers!

Remember Dillard thought they were going to play St. Thomas in the playoffs and they did not. Rival game against Ely cost them that shot.

Which is why you can NEVER overlook ANY playoff opponent, no matter how “inferior” they may look on paper. One bad night in the playoffs means that your dreams of a state championship are 88 and out the gate!

That happen the last two years with the year before being to homestead which is why a change at the top was MOST DEF needed. The locker room needed a new voice , a new direction & most of all some discipline and accountability.

when you look at Dillard we had a lot of stars on paper last year but they LACKED heart & overall mental toughness. Our team took on the personality of our head coach which was cocky and lackadaisical.

You have the talent to beat STA! But special teams have to be a LOT better.

What looked like a weakness for Venice in the spring may now be a strength. The coaching staff has been playing around with different players on the defensive line and may have found a combination that works. Ke'Shawn Reid is converting from a left tackle to a NT and will play next to Ryan Daly this year. Asharri Charles is converting from a running back to a defensive end and will play on the right side. Elijah Jones will play on the left side next to Daly. This is exciting news for Venice, because:

Ke'Shawn Reid is only an upcoming junior and is already benching 390 and squatting 585. Insane. We expect that he will be at a 410 bench and a 600 lb squat by the time the preseason game against TBT rolls around. He has the potential to be even better than Trenton Kintigh at that spot. Ryan Daly playing next to him will take potential double teams off of Asharri Charles and Elijah Jones and allow Coaches Hyer and Shannon to find potential mismatches for a free rusher to get into the backfield. Add on the fact that Venice is fielding their most experienced linebacking corps in school history and a very strong backfield, and it looks like Venice is just about set to avenge last season's state championship loss to Lakeland! GO INDIANS!!!
