FYI-just missing the cut due to limited numbers of regional titles.  We tease Deerfield Beach, Vero and Columbia, but Jesuit is another program that has repeatedly bowed out in the earlier playoff rounds.

Tampa Jesuit-4 regional titles, 1 state runner-up title, 37 playoff wins

Columbia-3 regional titles, 1 state runner-up title, 35 playoff wins

Ok question what is counted as regional titles?

Is it making the finals or is it making final 4? Because if so Columbia list of regional titles is larger

64 (state runner up)

67 (state title)

69 (regional champ, lost in state semifinals)

97 (state runner up)

03 (regional champ, lost in state semifinals)

15 (regional champ, lost in state semifinals)

Not trying to take anything away from your work but I want to make sure I'm on the same page when it comes to the Classification being used when defining something like "regional titles" when it isn't always been clearly defined because some have different definitions for that term

If you made it to the semi finals then you were region champs. The region championship is the 3rd round of the playoffs.

I used the year 1975 to start counting region titles.  That is when we started talking with some regularity about regions and region titles.  Prior to that, one heard of district titles and sectional titles(state semis).

If we wanted to go back to the Stone Ages, Miami High and Coral Gables could make a strong case that they were one of the best 25 large programs in the state.   My version in the original post is really meant to be a more modern-day version of such a list.  As it is, it feels a bit funny listing a program like Merritt Island, whose heyday was so long ago.

There's another reason why inclusion of 1960's results in a discussion of the "modern era" is problematic...segregation.  Even though things started officially changing in the late 1960's, there was a lag time of years where things still looked and felt very segregated, well into the 70's.  It's not like we snapped a finger and everything instantly changed.  Many "white" schools stayed "white" for a long time afterward.

Some teams of today, whose rosters are racially balanced, were completely white back then.  Privates schools were not leveraging their "advantages" anywhere close to the same extent that they do today.  It was just a different world.  Teams that won titles in the 60's and prior deserve credit for their accomplishments, but winning a title back then simply cannot be compared to winning titles today.  That's not to say those titles are any less noteworthy.  It's simply comparing apples to oranges.

There were huge changes to the game in the late 80's/early 90's.  One could argue that a discussion of the modern era should only include results over the past 25-30.years.

I' am working on a similar list for smaller schools (1A-4A).  As much as I love the Raiders, both Glades Day and Pahokee have brought home more region and state titles over the past 40 years.

I thought Niceville would have had a better resume than Ely

Niceville has won 5 region titles and just missed the cut with 31 playoff wins.  There are are about 10 teams right on the cusp.

    • I’ve been to 15 Finals.  This year’s games were the best I’ve ever attended.  For what it’s worth, here are my thoughts.  I sat on the the Press Box/Suites side for every game.   Elevate Everyday Play Elevated play essentials that make space for what matters. Our pieces look as...   > 1A - The Chaminade fans I interacted with were very overconfident.  I sat near one whose stepson was the starting center.  I told him I thought Cardinal Newman would keep the game close until halftime and then Chaminade would run away with it.    He looked at me like I was crazy then proceeded telling me how superior Chaminade was.  After Cardinal Newman scored the first touchdown I didn’t even look at him.  He then proceeded to get up and found a cluster of Chaminade fans to sit with.     Elevate Everyday Play Elevated play essentials that make space for what matters. Our pieces look as...   >   Elevate Everyday Play Elevated play essentials that make space for what matters. Our pieces look as...   > When the game ended many of the Chaminade fans just sat and stared into space.  Not looking at each other.  Not saying anything. 2A - I took enjoyment watching a team from the city of Sarasota where I grew up from the age of 10.  Had seen both teams play this year so I thought I had a good gauge on this game.  I mistakenly thought this would be a closer game.  I was amazed how much Mooney dominated the lines of scrimmage. 3A - The big story this season for Northwestern was the replacement at QB of last year’s starter, Leon Strawder, with a sophomore transfer from Ransom Everglades. The Bulls new QB, Neumann Lawrence, was brought over to Northwestern by Teddy Bridgewater himself (at least that was what I was told).  I saw this new QB play twice for the Bulls and he was phenomenal.  Friday night Raines put a lot of pressure on him so he struggled most of the game. I began keeping my eye on Raines especially during the playoffs. I told some that Raines would not beat Northwestern but you would be surprised how close Raines’ talent level was to the Bulls.  The responses were not positive.  I stayed to watch the Vikings celebration.  I’m really happy for them. 4A - This game did go as I thought.  I did not see Jones play this year but I’m very familiar with the program.  I saw AHP play Archbishop McCarthy in the Regional Final.  Despite making early mistakes and taking McCarthy’s best shot the Patriots prevailed.  That night I saw an AHP that was patient, confident and did not get rattled.   5A - Nothing to say except boring. 6A - The clock struck midnight for a young and dangerous West Broward team.  West Boca Raton was dominant and West Broward looked like they had completely run out of that mojo that got them to the finals. 7A - Vero Beach fans must have outnumbered Lake Mary fans 4 to 1.  Many times during the game I heard different people say it’s going to be a long ride home if we don’t win. During the game I was in a group text that Laz was in.  If you don’t know already Laz is a big Lake Mary fan.  During the game we had to talk him off the ledge when Vero was scoring at will.  A few times Laz texted that the game was over and he was going to turn it off.  He hung in there long enough to see his beloved Rams pull off the play of the year and win their first state title.  Congratulations Laz! More random thoughts: * It was obvious Chaminade and Northwestern came into their games emotionally not ready.  Pretty sure they did not fully respect their opponents. * Would the Bulls have won with Strawder at QB?  IMO, probably.   * At the beginning of the season QB Darryon Jones was on Chaminade’s roster.  Not sure why Darryon transferred out to Venice.  He played very well for Venice.  Would the Lions have beat Cardinal Newman with him at the helm?  IMO, probably. * Please give Aquinas a quality opponent next year. * I see that Mike E left the 7A game early because of a little rain.  Just kidding, I stayed but I was soaked.  Truth be told I briefly considered leaving at about the same time Mike left in the 4th quarter.
    • Is there any possibility that you would be willing to be more specific?
    • Could better coaching decisions have put the game away earlier?
    • What are you talking about? Are you claiming that the game officials made up the penalties?
