Great Article about Florida HS Coach Pay

If we think that the Head Coaches are underpaid how about the thousands of assistant coaches who are probably not paid at all. I might add that most private schools don't budget much for coaches, either. Outside of STA, Bolles, and a few others, I would not be surprised if a regular teacher coaches the football team for a few extra dollars.

If you coach for the money you are going backwards. It probably works out to about $2 a hour if you figured it out. You do it because you love it. Now I'm not saying it shouldn't be more but everyone knows what the deal is. I don't get paid to go hunting or fishing and they are my hobbies but coaching you do get something at least .

I wish everyone that follows high school football would read this article.  I can't tell you how many times I've heard people criticizing coaches and bringing up that they get paid "a lot of money".  I know a lot of coaches and not only do they get very little money but they usually end up putting that money back into the program for various expenses that the school doesn't pay for.  A lot of kids are only eating at school the coaches make sure they get fed.  A lot of kids only have team clothes to wear I know you all know some of these kids, the coaches find them those clothes even if it's a t-shirt celebrating the girls district track championship in 2008.  These coaches are there for these kids when they get into trouble, when their grades slip, when their mother dies, when their father abuses them,  when the whole world turns against them. I know the hard work these guys put in coaching, mentoring, tutoring, feeding, clothing, transporting these kids.  Head coaches get very little and many assistants get nothing.  Coaches are the last chance a lot of these kids have to keep them focused on education and bettering themselves.  It is a lot cheaper to pay coaches than to build prisons.  Anytime you hear someone going off about a coach ask them what positive influence they've had on a kids life, because most coaches are doing yeoman's work for the love of the kids and the game.

When it comes to money it's all about politics, If School board raises the property tax with a special assessment you can bet they will have hard time getting elected again, so i dont know what the answer is but i do agree that Florida coaches do more than they get paid for.

It would need to be raised as a state as a whole not county per county

    • This is probably going to impact several different schools. Sumner will probably lose several key players to transfer. This means some schools are going to be getting unforeseen boosts as well. You'd assume that the schools in that immediate area might benefit. But, in this day and age, some players could end up far away. Tampa Robinson lost their head coach to USC, and their top recruit transferred...to Chaminade in Broward County.
    • As reported by Josh on this site, Sumner's head football coach, Alonzo Ashwood, was dismissed.  No reason for the dismissal was given, but it certainly wouldn't have been based on the team's on-the-field performance.   I've got a hunch the coach crossed one of those pesky rule lines, perhaps one too many times, and left the principal with little choice.   Again, just speculation on my part.   It'll be interesting to see what repercussions this has for the Stingrays.   Here's a link to Josh's article: http://floridahsfootball.com/2024/05/20/alonzo-ashwood-dismissed-at-sumner-after-four-seasons-per-report/
    • Vero’s offense struggled the entire game, the lone score came on a scoop and score via a fumble. White showed the characteristics of a presumed first year starter. His ability is there no doubt, he’ll just need to settle into the starting role.    West Boca was much more effective- leaning on their 4* running back Javian Mallory, can see them having another good year. They would have probably won the game had it gone a little longer.
    • If all the talk from the head coach about Dillard being bigger and better this year and how last year in his first year was a trial and error for him, it better be an easy dub. Lol
    • As For my Dillard panthers , this will be a huge test for us before things crank up for real in the next few months.    right now Dillard will be coming in this game with a lot of questions. Whose gonna be the Starting QB after a lot of controversy in last year playoff lost to ely where the fans and some of the players felt the sophomore back up should have replaced the junior starter after constantly turning the ball over.    the panthers also will be debuting a new OC & a new DC for the 2024 season. Last year while the defense was average to above average. Our offense appeared to be very basic & vanilla with No real offensive schemes to get the playmakers open.    we’ve gotten a few transfers in & promoted a few great players from JV to varsity. & with this being year 2 of Dillards new head coach & being placed in a new district I’m interested to see the adjustments & progressions in this season vs last season.    this has the make to be a very good game if the weather permits for all 4 quarters, but until proven otherwise I’m going to take the knights in this game in a final score of    DILLARD 21 MONARCH 28 what do you guys think of this matchup @nolebull813 @FBGUY1989 @cribboy305
