sooo this is the 2nd time out of 3 weeks a hurricane has hit Florida & has caused games to be rescheduled or canceled all together.

so if you know of any games being canceled or rescheduled , post it here.

especially with district games being the ones that’s been heavily effected the last two storms.

dillard vs Suncoast was a district game that has yet to be rescheduled , Dillard vs dr Garcia this Thursday is a district game but that game was called off due to school closure tomorrow. So that’s 2 games for Dillard that’s district games that’s been postponed.

@561_Fan how does west palm usually reschedule their games , because if this was between to broward schools the game will just be moved from Thursday to Friday.

Florida is gonna have to extend the football season by at least one week. Or look for teams to be playing 3 games in 8 days

What I don’t understand is if the game is between to county teams or let’s say Dillard and Garcia and the game was originally set for a Thursday. But it was canceled due to weather that day.

why isn’t it league policy for the teams to play that next day which would be Friday or at worst that Saturday .

trying to push a week for further down the line only further complicate things, teams don’t have the same byes and their are other district games to be played.

so if your Thursday game got canceled and all is clear Friday and sat it should be mandatory to play one of those two days or which ever team refuse they forfeit.

And another thing what’s with palm beach and all these Thursday games they like to have @561_Fan

we got 3 palm beach district games this season & all of them are on Thursdays.

out of all the years I’ve played for or supported Dillard our games are always on Friday or Saturday.

but yet anytime we play a PBC they be on that Thursday bull.

I think it all has to do with practice and how many hours you get in before a game. I’m not sure if it’s a rule but I have heard coaches in the past say games had to be postponed down the road because they didn’t have enough practice time. Maybe no school Monday-Wednesday so they couldn’t practice so there was no way to play a game Thursday or Friday. Not sure though. It’s probably a case by case basis

I can only speak to my area of familiarity, but sometimes there is an issue of stadium availability and/or availability of referee crews (which is often why the game was scheduled on a Thursday to begin with).  So there can be some underlying logistical issues besides gamesmanship on the part of one of the teams.

I know in Miami the Northwestern and Columbus game was canceled and reschedule to next week Thursday and its not a district game. I don't know how Broward and Palm Beach work though but district games determine playoff spots and eligibility so those games have to be reschedule.

Palm Beach will usually reschedule for a Monday if they don’t have the same bye week. Since Suncoast and Garcia are district games and affect the playoffs, they will be made up. Pahokee has to make up Forest Hill (Hurricane Helene) and now Clewiston (Hurricane Milton). Depending on the damage Zephryhills Christian gets, don’t know how that will go for next week. Non-district games don’t have to be made up, they are usually up to the schools

There’s a shortage  of officials, so they play some games on Thursday so all games can be played for the week. A lot of refs double up football games. It’s a lot WORSE during basketball season. JV games are usually Tuesday/Wednesday.

I think the conflicting part about all of that tho is , we still have a district game with Boynton beach in 2 weeks (on a Thursday), then soul bowl is next Saturday, then Deerfield beach the last game of the season. So with all these last two Thursday district games being postponed it’s gonna cause problems with us having to double up and play multiple games In a week. Which is why that Garcia game needs to be played Friday or Saturday.

and I know you mentioned shortage of officials in pbc but this Garcia game is at Dillard in broward shortage of refs is usually never a problem.

Just an FYI about what days games are scheduled for.  Nearly all games are originally scheduled for Friday.  However, because of the shortage of officials, the ref association asks for volunteers for Thursday games.  If not enough teams volunteer to move to Thu, then they start to assign games to Thu.  Between MS, JV, V, and youth games, there are not enough refs.  I'm sure many of you remember the strike at the beginning of the ''18 or '19 season.  Because the ref pay in Fl is so low compared to our neighboring states many officials have either stepped away from the profession/side hustle, or have left for other states.

Then there are issues with faith-based holidays.  That also causes Thu games here in So Fl because we have a high population of students/players who observe these holidays.

And yes, practice time before games is a factor in when games get rescheduled.

I don’t know Garcia’s schedule but those district games have to be made up or 1 team will forfeit. Dillard will probably be doubling up those two games, but your backups, backups will be playing with a running clock

Here is some guidance from the FHSAA Football Manual.  Presumably the Executive Director of FHSAA has the authority to waive or adjust the football calendar in the extenuating circumstances now faced by many schools:

4.7.1.1.3.   Every district game shall be played and completed by week 10 of the season. This shall be accomplished even if it requires the rescheduling or cancellation of non-district games. It, therefore, is important that all district games cancelled due to inclement weather be made up not later than Monday of the last week of the regular season. The FHSAA office is committed to protecting the integrity of the Florida High School State Championship Series. Schools do not have the option to cancel a district game by agreement unless forfeiture is involved.

4.7.4.1.   In order to be considered as a “Playoff” qualifier, a school must play a minimum of eight regular-season games. (An exception may be made by the Executive Director of FHSAA for schools that do not play a full schedule of games.)

4.7.4.1.1.   Postponed contests must be played on the next day unless a makeup play date is agreed upon in the signed contract or both schools agree on a mutual later play date. The failure of a team to play the next day, on the agreed upon play date in the contract or on the mutual agreed later play date would result in a forfeit for the team who fails to come to an agreement of a makeup date.

My thoughts exactly. This game needs to be played tomorrow or Saturday at the latest. We already have a rescheduled game with Suncoast that has yet to be rescheduled. And we got to go to Suncoast.

Garcia needs to just make that trip tomorrow or Saturday while the weather is clear.

I can tell you that half of the Broward schools play on Thursdays now as well. Has been the last 2-3 seasons. Dillard has just been lucky. Has to do with referee shortages. Same refs do both games.  Also, it makes it hard for Saturdays because the same refs do little league games and they get paid more. 1 HS game vs. 5 games for different weight classes or whatever at the same field.  Other sports have same issues were half the teams play Tues/Thurs and other half do Mon/Wed and same refs do middle school games.
