The ones where FL leaves the state will count

The ones FL hosts will not

Not true. South Broward is playing in Florida but it's a preseason game for SB.

All 5 week zero games are preseason

My understanding is that if a team from FL leaves the state and plays in a state like GA, SC, NC or TN who is playing regular season games this week it counts as regular season for FL team because they are traveling

Has this been verified? Seems like NolesBull has a different take.

Some of these games are baffling.

-New Hempstead(GA) @ Bolles - Definitely not an OOS team looking to come to FL to beat up a FL team and brag about it.  This should be a wipeout by Bolles of a newer, small-school GA program just getting on its feet.

-Taravella @ Coffee(GA) - Taravella did not even win a district game last year.  Coffee County is a strong program.  So a team that struggles to win games in Broward County is driving 7 hours to the middle of nowhere to play a team that will likely beat them easily.

-Everglades @ Thomasville (GA) - Another Broward County team with losing record that struggles to win locally traveling 7 hours to the wilds of south GA to play a mediocre, small school less than a third of its size.

-Melbourne Central Catholic @ Corinth, MS - 750 miles to play a mediocre public school team in the middle of nowhere in Mississippi.  I've been to Corinth and there is nothing there, trust me!

I could see going somewhere like Atlanta or Charlotte to show the kids some sights, but some of these locations strike me as very odd.

Not that you are wrong, Bolles should beat them. But New Hampstead is not a small school. They have almost 1,400 students. Almost twice the size of Bolles.

Bad word choice on my part...sorry  They have been scheduling non-district games against teams in GA Class A and AAA, so acting a bit like a "small" school.

I don't know what I would have done if they lost.

Imagine the beat down if every stud S Broward lost ended up staying? They played with a backup team basically

That should tell you something about south Broward lmao

Props to South Broward on the win. But I saw a small portion of the game and Marina did not look good. That was a game SB had better won. Now they’re going to get a real challenge with Western. This will give a much better idea as to where they are.

Laz there are four games that count for the record from Week 0

Auctilla Christain/Sherwood Christian

Pine Ridge/Ware County

University Christain/Metrolina

Bay/Rutherford (a special exception was granted to have the game count this week as both schools forgo a kickoff classic in order to open the new Tommy Oliver Stadium in Panama City as the school district wanted that game to be the first one played in the stadium)

Honestly I didn't know for sure except the South Broward/Marina game was for sure a preseason game.

The confusing thing is last year Camden County,GA played Oakleaf the preseason week but it counted towards Camden's regular season record but not for Oakleaf. It was a preseason game for Oakleaf.

I thought there was a rule that if the Florida team leaves the state it's a regular season game and if it's in Florida it's preseason.

Oakleaf's game counted when they went up there... it did not count the first year when they hosted.

Yeah the game was closer because South Broward was playing with primarily a 2nd team. They lost double digit transfers and had every single one of them stayed the game would have been 40-0 easy.

The game was scheduled before the transfers so props to the Marina coach for challenging his team.

South Broward might not win another game this year. Lol

They'll have a chance against Everglades and Hollywood Hills. No chance vs Western and Lakeland. I'm starting to think McArthur wins that district. I think SB will be underdogs against West Broward, Nova, and Cooper City, but could take 1 of those games.

    • Nolebull, You are making a good argument for what the rule ought to be or why the rule ought to be changed.   I'm telling you what the rule is.  Interestingly, I witnessed first hand the FHSAA deal with a case that was very similar to the (presumably, hypothetical) one you just described.  A family provided a kid with a bed for the night because that kid had an unfortunate family situation that would have left him homeless for the night had a teammate's family not stepped up and given him a place to stay for the night.  Yep, you got it, impermissible benefit.  Coach and school penalized.  The difficulty is coming up with rules that can't be taken advantage of.  Where do you draw the line?   If paying for an Uber is OK, why can't you just buy the kid a car instead?  More convenient for all parties.  If you can buy a kid a meal, why can't you take his family grocery shopping and let them stock up?  Or, better yet, just give then a gift card and let them spend the money as they please.  What do you do when one school offers up a $1,000 gift card, but another school is willing to give the kid a $2,000 gift card?  Do we really want to turn high school sports into professional sports?
    • Some kids NEED to transfer to get in the best position to change the trajectory of their entire life. Could literally save their life. Difference between going to college and being stuck in your neighborhood getting lost to streets.    And I can only speak for myself, but I’m more interested in a at-risk kid changing his situation for the better in hopes of saving his life than your favorite high school team losing a game because he transferred from your favorite school.
    • I wouldn’t be so critical of the FHSAA if they didn’t lie and say they give 2 craps about student athletes. I wish people would just be honest. But I guess if they were honest, it would mess up their hustle.
    • Wait are you saying there is a rule that bars an adult mentor who coaches young men a sport from helping a struggling student athlete and his family with transportation? Whoa that’s next level crazy.    “Hey coach I’m on the side of the road and almost got hit. I’m miles from school and it’s 110 degrees out. Can you get me a ride?” ”Sorry. Some turds 6 hours away in Gainesville said I can’t. Hope you don’t get hit or pass out.”
    • Say what you want, justify it however you want, wish the rules weren't what they are, but there is no question that a coach or other school representative paying for Uber rides for kids playing sports is a violation of the existing FHSAA rules.  Period.  And Teddy Bridgewater may be or have been an elite athlete, may be or become an excellent high school football coach, and/or may have his heart in the right place, but tweeting out a message to the world that you have done something that undoubtedly constitutes a violation of the rules is just plain stupid.
