  1. Cut Classes. Go to 7 classes. There are about 500 teams currently not independent. 1A 36 Teams (I don't care what 1A does) 2A-7A Divide them evenly. That leaves about 76 teams in each class. About 19 in each Region. Go to 3 districts per region not 4 so about 6.3 teams in each district. Set Districts up so it is 5-7 in a district. Let champ and runner up get in. Have shootouts to determine champ and runner up if needed. That gives you two wild cards to be determined by a point system. Keep adjusting the point system until you get it right. Also do some more research before you put it out there. Set playoffs up using point system seeding. District champ hosts round 1 but they don't have to be a 1-3 seed. Now every game counts and for the most part it is decided on the field.

  2. Just stop and think about that for a second. And say it slow. An 0-9 team made the playoffs because they beat a 4-5 team at a coin flip. This is the worst trash system we ever had since Pensacola High played the first game in state history in 1905. Josh should be in the ear. Silence is complicity

  3. Back in 2013 the 28 underdog point spread was the largest Dillard had faced in a long time well that point spread has gotten two points steeper. going into Friday’s home playoff game as district champion Dillard will be 30 POINT UNDERDOGS so it may end 30-0 or as good as the rockets is it may end 56-0. so much can happen in a game where momentum is switched and upsets happen but Miami central has been extremely battle tested and is more then ready to make a run back to Orlando. in my heart of hearts I pray Dillard make it respectable to really show growth this season and build off that next year but if not and we lose 69-0 I still look forward what strides we can and will make moving forward GO PANTHERS GO!!

  4. Yes, I believe Jones has a great shot at getting revenge even though they will have to travel to their place. Jones may well be the best team in Orlando this year. They were heavily touted last year and disappointed. This year they are totally flying under the radar and are at least as good as they were a year ago. I feel that this has led to a lack of pressure on them as there are very few expectations. We will see. They have by far the most impressive local win against Bishop Moore this year and it is for a reason.

  5. Well they wanted to win those games and they tried really hard. They are also really good at coin flips and in the end that is what matters most.

  6. Pahokee's offense lacks any real production, very vanilla!! GC played them 0 coverage for 90 percent of the game and the coach didn't make adjustments to counter that! Would've been easy to stack your receivers or run a lot of bunch sets, but that didn't occur! Oh well, another loss to an inferior team, GC executed a great game plan and PK didn't....

  8. Who remembers this game, at the time these two teams had two of the best QBs playing on their teams.... Kinda crazy that ironically Vero beat both of em in the season openers, fun fact

  14. The Raines lost was KOC. Question was Bolles 100% when they played Trinity? Bolles did travel down to Rockledge the week before the Trinity game. Honestly I don't see Trinity as the most talented team in 5A. One of the most talented, yes. The most talented, no. Plus if Rockledge makes it through their bracket to face Trinity in state...they better not take them likely because Rockledge is definitely talented enough to make a game out of it and to win. Last season we saw how Rockledge almost pulled off the upset. This year those players are more seasoned and prepared. Also Rockledge side of the bracket has more talented teams that they would have to face.

  16. Rockledge beat BOLLES 27-24 Trinity beat BOLLES 41-14 .. Rockledge lost to raines who only beat Ribualt by a td ... Trinity beat Ribualt 47 - 0 ...I know that dnt really mean nothing but I'm just saying

  17. Most talented in north but i wouldn't ignore a team like Cardinal Gibbons in terms of talent or a team like AHP (who lost at home to CG) If Trinity gets CG at state they better take them seriously because they are good

  18. Ah yes, EGGZACKLEE! in efforts to better it, "Let's Do it for the kids" we lost sight of the "application" of the process. Rely on the adults to do right, or figure it out, or play fair............let's just try it out.......then try it out on the adults, NOT the kids, the infraction on the kids could have been a lot less 'impactful" if it had been played out, mock trials, worst case scenarios. This would have been warranted before application. Open the conversation to more than what they did. And before somebody says, "it was voted on by Coaches and ADs," you know some coaches were not invested in the conversation or whether ADs understood, cared, or were invested themselves. Now i'm not saying that is right on their part, I'm just saying it's real.

  19. I appreciate your post. There is so much emphasis today put on scheduling(and rightfully so because of the current system. I hear as much talk about that as x's and o's, and that is scary. We have driven the kids to spend even more time on computers trying to figure out our foolishness, when they could be hitting the books or spending more time learning schemes or practicing.

  21. Floridaatlantic, I'm beyond the frustration, I'm over it, my psychiatrist say so. Last year i was not just arguing my personal interest, it was the system itself. Of course it was in our own hands, that was not the major point i was making then, or now. If you are going to a point system, you do not get an accurate enough rating in the current system. Moreover, the ability to make the playoffs becomes more of a SCHEDULING COMPETITION, and some schools(school districts) have more autonomy in scheduling - that is Adults involved, an Administrative Issue, not kid production. Not allowing the kids to decide it on the field of competition, THAT is more the travesty.

  22. UUUUUUHHHHHH OldSchool, HWY..........you two don't work in the Florida Public School System do you? This is EXACTLY the procedure in Florida Public Schools.......excuse me, there are teachers that don't subscribe to it, but this is the "Marching Orders" from the "Brass." Should explain a lot about where we are.... .......if you look at it that way..........this playoff system makes PERFECT SENSE......I retract my objections!

  23. The FHSAA should also bring back the 3 way tiebreakers if three teams tie a district and none of them beat the other two. What would it hurt to settle it on the field on Monday after week 9 instead of the obviously flawed points system.

  24. My concern with smaller districts is not due to a problem of teams not being able to get hyped up. It's certainly not a problem for the coaches and players, regardless of opponent. And many non-district games in past and present are/were some of the more intriguing matchups. I would need to some attendance data to be convinced it's a "problem" for the fans. As districts and regions got broken up over time, many teams maintained formal and informal rivalries through non-district matchups. When a team was playing the team 2 miles down the road in a non-district matchup in the 90's, I guarantee you the team was up and fans were excited, because that team was often a district opponent at some time in the past. One could easily debate that we have lost the intensity we used to have in district matchups, now that we have teams with losing records in district play, ie 1-4 Coconut Creek, making the playoffs. Kids come home after a district loss and instead of focusing on what they did to lose, they are gawking at the computer screen looking at what everyone else did and, in some cases, saying "Phew, well that loss didn't hurt us so much because..." On many fronts in today's society, we are spending far too much time worrying about what "the other guy" is doing instead of looking inwardly. The new system perpetuates that. IMO, that is one of its biggest flaws. In the real world, when you screw up, there is not a points system to bail you out and make you feel better. When I am screwing up on a project at work, I don't tell my boss, "Well look at what the other guy is doing. He's even worse."

  25. This region has a number of possible Cinderella stories, if one of those teams could pull off an upset over Venice. Look for lots of points to be scored in this slate of games. 7A-R3 #8Tampa Bay Tech(7-3) @ #1Venice(9-1) These two teams are regulars on the playoff scene, but have only met once in the playoffs. Defending 7A state champion Venice defeated TBT last year 48-17 in the region final. Venice has had impressive wins over Manatee, Palmetto, Braden River and Riverview, all after a rough start versus Vero Beach. The Indians' offense has been lighting up the scoreboard, averaging 44 points per game. TBT had an impressive win over Armwood, but lost games to Plant City, Gaither and Bloomingdale. The Titans' defense has been allowing an average of 18 points per game. Look for Venice to exploit that. #7Palmetto(7-3) @ #2Pinellas Park(10-0) Can Pinellas Park bring glory to their county? These two teams have met once in the playoffs. Palmetto knocked out the Patriots in the first round last year, winning 28-24. PP has only won 3 playoff games in its history, the last victory coming in 2013. The Patriots are 10-0, but have played a very weak schedule. Only one team came within 21 points of them. Their statistics on both sides of the ball are gaudy, but may be deceiving because of the level of competition they faced. They scored 42 or more points in all but one of their games, and their D had 4 shutouts. Palmetto is a regular on the playoff scene, but has had limited success of late. TBT knocked them out in the second round last year. The Tigers may be peaking at the right time, getting their most impressive win of the season last weak against Charlotte. The Tigers have lost against tough competition, ie Manatee, Braden River and Venice. They can light up the scoreboard with an offense that averages 40 points per game. But their defense has been porous at times, allowing 28+ points in 4 games and an average of over 20 points per game. This one could be a shootout. #6Bloomingdale(9-1) @ #3Riverdale(10-0) These two Cinderella teams have had surprising seasons and have never met in the playoffs. Riverdale last appeared in the playoffs in 2010 and has only won one playoff game in its history, back in 2005. Bloomingdale has only appeared in 3 playoff games in its history, and has never won. The Bullswere knocked out by Tampa Bay Tech in the first round last year. Bloomingdale has impressive wins over Chamberlain and Tampa Bay Tech. They lost to Plant City. The Bulls have averaged 38 points per game on offense and their defense has 6 shutouts. Those stats may be a bit deceiving, though, since the Bulls have played some weak teams. Riverdale is 10-0, but has played a fairly weak schedule. No team has gotten within 14 points of them. They have wins over Lehigh and N Fort Myers, both of whom made the playoffs. Like Bloomingdale, the Raiders have gaudy stats that may be deceiving. They have scored 35 or more points in all but one of their games. This one could be a shootout. #5BradenRiver(8-2) @ #4Plant City(9-1) These two teams have met once in the playoffs. Braden River defeated Plant City 17-7 in the 2015 region final. That was the last time that the Raiders have appeared in the playoffs. Plant City has won only 4 playoff games in its history. The Raiders played a rather weak schedule. They had a nice win over Tampa Bay Tech, but got exposed versus Armwood, who put up 44 points on them. The Pirates have had success in the playoffs the last few years. They were knocked out in the second round last year by Venice. They have wins over Manatee and Palmetto, but fell just short against Venice and Trinity Christian. Their offense has averaged 41 points per game, but their defense has been porous, allowing an average of 22 points per game. They have given up big points throughout the season, including 31 versus St Pete in the last game of the season. No doubt they will eventually run into a team they cannot outscore. *Palmetto and Tampa Bay Tech were benefactors of the new points system.

  26. First Rockledge has to get by Cardinal Gibbons and a few others. Then we can talk smack. Not so sure TCA beats Rockledge. Rockledge just beat the dog fudge out of Cocoa, and Cocoa has beaten TCA every time they played. Good luck in the playoffs.

  27. For the million and first time, you pick those two teams out because they were in a 2 and 3 team district. That is FHSAA'S fault for allowing teams to move out of districts. This system was designed to prevent that and it has failed miserably despite everyone telling them that it would. What is worse a flaw or a flaw that is designed to fix the flaw but makes the matters worse? 4-5 years ago maybe more, they floated an idea that teams would gain points for each win an opponent had. I had to show them that a winless Creekside would make playoffs. They realized system sucked. They make changes without showing what will happen. There is ZERO reason that a Winless team should be in playoffs, the fact that you defend the system means you are okay with this result.

  28. We had a winless FAMU team clinch playoffs before a game was even played and a 1-9 Eastside team get in playoffs while a 4 time state champion sat at home on old system The old one isn't any better

  29. #8Wiregrass Ranch(7-3) @ #1Lakeland(10-0) This should be running click by halftime #7Sickles(7-3) @ #2Viera(7-3) Another running clock game, by 4th quarter #6Gaither(7-3) @ #3Plant(9-1) This is a dreaded district rematch. Gaither could give them a run. But I think Plant wears them down in the 2nd half. #5Kathleen(5-4) @ #4Harmony(9-1) This one could be a toss-up.....if Kathleen can stay disciplined. Kathleen started out slow, but got better throughout the year (except the 50-0 loss to Lakeland) and I think their defense may be able to hold them in. They are missing a big piece in Brendan Gant though. I'll go out on a big limb and say Kathleen upsets Harmony.
