3M (PLAYOFF PAIRINGS)

Good morning, so as I was traveling to work this morning I was just thinking about this new 2M-2S & etc format & I got to wondering how In the hell is the playoff formats gonna be aligned.

for example back when it was district champions & runner ups I knew every year Dillard would be either hosting or traveling to play one of the MIAMI schools out of district 6A-16.

Now it’s kind of confusing I know we’re in 2M district 11.

But Come playoff time as runner up would we have to play @ ely a team we just played the week prior.

do we travel back to Miramar a team we played in week 2 ? Or where the hell will we go ? So we can kind of get a idea what teams to possibly get prepared for.

it was also stated by our head coach that because of our SOS & depending on seeding we could possibly host as early as round 2. (Shrugs shoulders) don’t know how that could happen but that would be great lol.

@ColumbiaHighFan2017class @Jullian @nolebull813 any insight on this guys ??

Its all based on regional rank. Top 4 in region hosts from what I've gathered. I think right now y'all are just over Ely for the number 2 spot.

So if that is correct & Dillard win out tonight & next week. We can host a first round playoff game even as district runner up ??

no

district champs are seeded 1-4,  you most likely will be the 5 seed and play the worst district champ (Plantation, Piper or Atlantic) then play STA in round 2.  Might be best for you to lose a few more and get a 6 or 7 seed lol

I've seen otherwise that champs are only guaranteed a playoff birth but not guaranteed a top 4 seed

Just read through the handbook and teams are seeded based on their season ending ranking. District champs are just guaranteed a playoff spot.

you are correct.  They changed it.  I actually like the change even though the rankings suck

So looking at volleyball they did the same thing.  They have some district champs as lower seeds than the runner ups.  For example Hagerty beat Winter Park in the district finals but Winter Park is the 2 seed and Hagerty has to travel to them as the 3 seed.  I see this probably happening in football also.

Not me.  District champs deserve to host the first game.  I'm even more convinced of that opinion now that I'm seeing the FHSAA power rankings.

If they had large districts I would agree but some team winning a crappy 2-3 team district doesn't deserve to host just because they got put into a 2-3 team district.  The system sucks always has always will and its getting worse not better.

No they changed it this year badbird

District champs would host a wild card round 1 if seeded against them but it's possible for 2 district champs to be seeded against each other

For example say Dillard is #2 in region, they face #7 seed, if that #7 seed in round 1 is a district champ they would travel, If it's a wild card then Dillard would host

So if Ely was the #7 seed but district champ they would travel round 1 but after round 1 it's highest seed overall hosting

If they get wild card Piper at #7 for example than Dillard would host Piper round 1

(a) Playoff field will be made up of 32 teams in each class. (b) 8 Qualifiers in each region. 4 District champions and 4 at large qualifiers. Teams will be seeded 1-8 based on the final FHSAA Power Rankings. (c) Higher seed will always host in regional tournament.

This is from FHSAA rules and that says higher seed will always host

Interesting

I thought they threw a provision in there that district champs host a wild card in round 1

I understand what you're saying, but I'd rather reward a team for winning their district (however small and/or bad that district may be) than reward a team for being in a larger/tougher district, but not winning it.    At the end of the day, the cream usually rises to the top.   If the district runner-up is that much better than the near-by district winner, it won't matter that they're playing on the road -- they'll still win.  Just my POV.

I don't necessarily disagree with you except in rare situations that the fhsaa can't do better an put people in small districts.  Look at my volleyball example that just happened.  That's horrible.

They changed the rule at the April Board of Director's meeting.  The FHSAA Handbook may not have been updated.  The original article is on floridahsfootball.com and confirmed in the Board of Directors' meeting minutes.

 REGIONAL PLAYOFF RESEEDING TO OCCUR

The Board of Directors approved 16-0 a policy change that will now seed teams No. 1-No. 8 by the FHSAA Power Rankings that are generated by MaxPreps while only guaranteeing district champions an entry into the regional bracket, but not guaranteed a home game.

In the previous years, district champions have been seeded No. 1-No. 4 first while at-large teams were seeded No. 5-No. 8. In this situation, a district champion would have been guaranteed a home game in at least the first round of the playoffs.

However, the Operations Committee on Sunday modified the language slightly to read that while the teams will be seeded by the FHSAA Power Rankings first, if a district champion were to go up against an at-large team in the first round of the playoffs, they would be guaranteed to host regardless of their seed number.

As for two district champions meeting in the first round? The higher seeded district champion would host the first-round game under that caveat while if an at-large team faces another at-large team in the first round, the higher-seeded team of the two at-large teams would host.

After the first round, the higher seed will host regardless of if they are a district champion or not.

Aye I’m loving this change. & here I’m thinking that we would be on the road every round like last year because we lost our district.

so question , from the demographics @muckboy561 sent me Dillard and homestead is in two totally diff regions so if I’m reading this right Dillard only chance of seeing homestead for a revenge game would be in the state semis or state championship??

Now I'm confused.   Does the Operations Committee have the ability to change/modify a policy that the Board of Directors adopted?  Or did the change by the Operations Committee go back to the Board for approval at some time?

Second, if this was done in the Spring, why wouldn't it be included in the Football Handbook?  I feel like this is one of those "they only had one job" memes in the making.

    • When you right you right fam. At the end of the day. Anybody in dade, broward or palm beach know bout Dillard and know we don’t duck no team home or away. We down to line up any day.    but none of that puts points on the score board or guarantee victory. You can be ready and confident all you want, but if your team doesn’t have the personnel to match a national power house who gets in loads of transfers year and year out, 9/10 that score is going to be fairly lopsided.    and as much as I bleed Dillard day and night, and as much as it pains me to say. Dillard is not in Miami central, norland, sta, or chaminades league going into the this upcoming season. Let them beat up on each other.    I believe this is a perfect schedule for Dillard if they’re atleast still an above avg program they should win this district with ease and have no more then 2 loses this year.    if not and they struggle even with this schedule then Dillard as a program is most def going backwards and I would hate that for my Alma mater.
    • I agree with you on everything you said. Why play these powerhouses and get the butt kicked out of you. Yes you're not running away from good opponents, however what does a 63-0 loss due to the morale of a bunch of young men.
    • Welcome to the new wonderful wild west of high school football in Florida. We need to create a new position at each school. Recruiting coordinator. Because that is the only way to win big in this state now at the highest levels. The haves can turn into have not by losing one cheater coach.
    • There are zero coaches on campus, every single coach left
    • There is 1,750 kids in the school. That would be their fault if they can’t field a team of 40-50 players. I know it sucks about the mass exodus. I get it. But even though they won’t be competitive for the time being they should at least have enough varsity players returning, JV kids, and newcomers to field a team.    They should have had an assist at coach resume spring workouts, and maybe got in on a jamboree with lesser teams or held an inter squad scrimmage. But to cancel everything seems a bit erratic
