Broward and Darter:  What occurred in this situation at TCJax is not what you are describing in any way,shape or fashion. It's actually unfortunate that these assumption were made.  I spoke directly with administration yesterday (and local media outlets are now reporting the same thing) about the issue and here are the facts.  A home school defensive lineman's parents had apparently listed a wrong date on paperwork submitted for the player when he began the home school process. When TCJax was submitting the roster for the upcoming playoffs, the eligibility for this player was rejected by the FHSAA computer based on this clerical error by the parents.  TCJax immediately contacted the State to confirm that the error was, in fact, and error and that the rejection of eligibility was accurate. When it was confirmed by the FHSAA that the date listed originally by parents is what caused the player to be ineligible, TCJax immediately began the self reporting process that resulted in the forfeiture of all games to that point. TCJax did the right thing in this situation by self reporting the violation on the day they discovered it.  I know the head coach of TCJax well, and know that TCJax strives to run a program that conforms to the FHSAA guidelines. In fact, the principal of TCJax has served on the FHSAA appeals board for years. This is not what you have described  in any way and I wanted you guys to know the facts of what was behind the forfeiture of games. TCJax now will need to win Monday night just to get into the playoffs..... crazy year. 

 

I appreciate the insight and details to the matter TCMan .   So basically you are saying that the State never replied to the matter from early season until they contacted TCA for the playoff rosters? It was just the timing of the entire matter when it went public that I think people are questioning.   It coincidentally all finally was corrected/ addressed by the FHSAA what appears to be hours before the Week 10 District game.  It sounds like from what you are saying this matter should have been addressed a long time ago by the FHSAA but they waited till the last minute before the playoffs which makes the matter look shady.  If that is the case then the FHSAA should probably take accountability.  Perhaps you could attempt to appeal it?

 

Thanks for the details....For us fans, I think it is more the timing of the incident rather than the actual "violation" ( that sounds like it was a mistake as well with the registration).  Best of luck putting this mess behind your program and perhaps you can win an appeal....

My question exactly Proset. I heard and have absolutely no evidence proving it that alot of kids are now home schooling and playing for TCA and they have special tutors for their home schooling. Alot cheaper than actually going to TCA but the football team benefits the same. This comes with the new rule about kids going where the want now. Before home schooled kids had to actually live in the school zone or be granted a exception.

It does not matter. In a fairer, juster world, a Private School would not be allowed to have a home schooled kid on its roster anyway.

 

It is one thing for a Private to be able to offer scholarships or otherwise arrange financial aid to kids that could not afford to attend. It is quite another for them to benefit from using home schooled kids. I am not against a home schooled kid playing high school sports. But it should be at a local public school.

 

If this kids wants to play at a private school, he/she should have to attend the private school.

I didn't realize home schooled kids could play for private schools I thought you had to play for a public school in the district where you lived.

Wow that is unbelievable! A kid can play for a private school and not pay the crazy tuition money by being home schooled. That is one heck of a loop hole. Again, this type of thing creates an uneven playing field. Private schools have a huge advantage in the current system. SMH

Agree. This is total BS. It is bad enough that private schools were never constrained by boundaries. But to allow a kid not enrolled there to play is beyond the pale. It takes this for me to become aware of this egregious loophole.

      I’m not saying it doesn’t occur. What I am saying is that everything is case by case so if you are accusing a specific coach/team of cheating, I would at least like to see the evidence of the accusation. Because if you don’t then you are basically defaming them with gossip

      Dang shame. Wonder what it was about. Wonder if the principle was meddling out of his element.    There was a story near me about Land O Lakes High. Before the season, 2 freshman were slap boxing and other kids were filming it. One kid was obviously winning over the other with the kids in the background cheering it on. So when it got leaked, it was interpreted as hazing. As if all the kids in the background were sanctioning it.    Without one second of investigation the principal shut the entire football program down. Varsity season cancelled over 2 freshman slap boxing. It caused a shit storm. Local news swarmed the school. Parents outraged. Protesting outside the office demanding the principal be fired.    They finally asked some quick questions and it was determined to be exactly what it was originally said it was. Football was reinstated but JV missed the first game over it.    The principal was some punk pencil neck who looks like he never played a sport in his life and many people came out and said he had it out for the football program and he was the same way at his old school.    I say all that to say is this a similar case of some pencil neck principal who never played sports trying to undermine and butt in to something that they are way out their element on?

      Word is, Coach Banks the former head coach was escorted off campus last week after a heated discussion with the principle. from what i have been told this stems from banks talking to the paper about the program.

      They definitely would have been competitive. They had a really good and really young OL coming back. They also had settled into a pattern of getting plenty of transfers.
