Thought I was in the twilight zone as your team lost a close controversial game and I could not find a thread on it.  Sorry about the loss I know that stings especially since this team was built for a title run.

Thoughts on the game?

Ehh it doesn't matter, I'm tired of defending them when several people up there want to always have a attitude with me

I decided I'll start spending my energy where it's actually appreciated instead of using it for people who don't see me as anything of value, spent hours upon hours for 3 years out there and moment I graduated the people out there started making it clear I wasn't welcome out there

Not to mention I'm done trying to convince a fanbase to step up  when they are too selfish to support the team and want to bail on them the first time things aren't going perfect like when the crowd walked out in 3rd quarter this past Friday

Also tired of being in a city with people who have given up making a effort to move to the future and are too busy trying to push their biased agenda, I need a fresh start where I can get away from this place because living in Lake City has turned into a cancer

I need to figure out my exit strategy from Lake City because I'm grown tired of being in a city with no future because the people running the city are too busy trying to push people out to protect themselves from being voted out of office by the younger generation who would have different expectations then the old power order that exists here

I need to live somewhere that isn't slowly going bankrupt with poor decision making

To be fair to those fans:

  • It was damn cold. I mean damn cold.
  • It was the start of Thanksgiving week for many with kids/families.
  • Lee had scored 31 straight points and Columbia's offense did nothing after the first/second drive.
  • Your star QB was injured, and unlike the last time, your back-up QB wasn't playing with a lead, and you were on your 3rd string QB by the start of the 4th quarter.
  • Your defense had reverted back to 2017 mentality against Lee where Lee's QB scrambles for 20 yards and throws for whatever he wants (yes, I know it was a different QB from last year).
  • Honestly, I almost walked out, I stayed because I wanted to see if Lee ended up with a running clock.
  • And again, it was damn cold.

You have been spoiled with a school and community that puts up the money for success. I challenge you to go to many of the urban schools and see what a lack of fan support really looks like. You aren't Valdosta or Lowndes, but your fan support is as good as any school in the state.

1. Some things are worth fighting for. I am not saying you should stay, as opportunities are not that plentiful for a young person. But I am saying that you should appreciate the good that is there.

2. Lake City is not a bad place. I was actually pleasantly surprised over the 17 hours I spent up there. No where in the world's perfect and your home town is certainly included. But there are many much worse places than Lake City. I found almost all the folks I interacted with welcoming and decent enough.

Sometimes it's a great idea to get out and find a new place! Funny tidbit: My very last day in Florida as I was leaving to move away for good ended with me watching Lakeland beat Columbia in Lake City in the 2001 KOC. I drove away from the stadium after the game, hit I-10 west and haven't looked back since! (Other than still following HS football haha).

If that is as good as any in the state than maybe your worries about state championship attendance really holds water because if that was the best this state has then support at football is really in jeopardy in this state

And btw i was out there since 5 and i didn't think it was that cold,  the only thing that made me feel cold was the score

I also had no intention on leaving early because I find that the ultimate act of disrespect to abandon the team because by walking out they are saying they have given up on them

Columbia used to be known for a rabid fanbase, idc what metros have.  Columbia is supposed to have better support then schools in Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Gainesville, Tampa, ect.  Just because we are getting better numbers than areas with no serious commitment to a high school team doesn't mean our support is good. Even when some in our fanbase have noticed and tried to address the dwindling support it hasn't improved, idk if you know this but the qb club started a movement of #Fillourstadium this season,  they wouldn't have done it if the attendance was up to our standards

I have been fighting for 2 years but I'm burned out and defeated trying to keep fighting a battle that it seems I'm alone in fighting and idk how much longer I can keep up the effort only to keep watching it fall short

It sucks because I'm doing the best i can but the simple fact is my best isn't enough, the longer I'm in Lake City the more I realize I will never be able to accomplish some goals and I'm just going to keep watching my friends leave because Lake City isn't doing enough to keep any of them here,  I'm sick of having to always play from behind and fail which is what everything I've done so far has been,  a failure

I have no influence to convince Lake City management to do what is necessary to protect the future of the city and since quite a few of these coaches up here at football hate me I obviously won't be able to do anything to help them anymore so I'm back where i started 5 years ago

My best bet is go somewhere else and get a fresh start so I can prove myself and maybe by doing what i can't do here I can get a little closure on this chapter of my life

Again, I am not saying leaving is the wrong decision. However, I am saying some things are worth fighting for. I am also saying that the ultimate hero is one that can rebound from failure.

You should take some time to read the story of Robert Bruce, of Scotland.

Or in the words of a Jamaican Reggae song from my youth, "If you fall on your face, it's no disgrace, just pick yourself from off the ground ..."

I agree some things are worth fighting for,  I just am starting to realize that it's a fight I can't win solo,  the only way i can win this fight is with some backup

All fights can be won. It may just mean the current strategy is not working. That's why good coaching staffs study game film meticulously.

And, backup can come from unexpected places. But you must seek it out. You know Lake City well because you have lived there all or at least most of your life. You know what makes the people there tick and where the centers of power are.

Take an inventory of all of that. Think carefully about what you want for yourself out of life. It may lead you to believe you should stay, or it may confirm your current feelings that you should go. All I am suggesting is that you carefully think your situation through.

You got me thinking big time now, I need to figure out what can be done because what I've done so far hasn't been working but there is options worth considering

Glad you didn't give up on trying to come over here lol

It been funny how you managed to piss Los off so easily but heads up with him. He's like a brick wall and unless you have energy to respond back to him for a hour or 2 consecutively then he is a waste of time because Los just talks till people give up arguing with him LMAO

What exactly is your role with the team? What was your role when you were a student?

The best way to describe what i did was plug and play, there were times I went from equipment to helping trainer all within a minute

But with how things started to change my senior year I realized I couldn't handle being out there full time anymore and since i wasn't working out there anymore the attitude towards me started to change drastically, it's interesting considering how I never seem to have this issue at any sport besides football

If I was the problem I would not be able to get along so well with other sports out there

haha thanks. Though I've been around the block for a long time. (Took a hiatus for a few years as I was over all of the super team building. I'm still over it, really. But, this is the first time Lakeland ratcheted things up to where they have Polk County's version of a super team.) I was around when Student Sports was the main message board-literally before the "turn of the century" lol. I think Canes came into the picture around 2005 or so. Maybe later. I was arguing with him some back then too :D

Get out of the home town... You will grow as a man and an individual once your not in comfortable surroundings.

Every thought of enrolling in classes at a JC or CC in another city.  Like Tampa, St. Pete, Tallahassee etc... Just get away man.  It will do you good.

Man too bad your not going to come to states this year... You should try to come even though your team isn't there...

I'm hoping that Columbia will make states but at this point I may just have to accept if it happens it won't be with football

Fine with me anyway my goal is to watch Columbia play at state, never was specific it had to be football
