  1. I was just looking at the state of GA HC top 100 salaries list and it is crazy how much more they get paid than a Florida coach. Even the 100th ranked coach on the list makes $100k+. How the heck can other states pay coaches well while this dumb ass state, with the best talent pool in the nation, can't even pay a coach minimum wage for all the time they put in? https://www.si.com/high-school/georgia/georgia-high-school-football-top-100-head-coaching-salaries-01jwgttnkwbz

  3. Wow and that’s the website the FHSAA uses for its rankings? What a crap show. Good luck finding the real schedules. The FHSAA doesn’t do anything to help. Georgia puts their on their website for all to see. A simple link that has every team and every schedule. One stop shop. The SSAA isn’t any better. I was trying to update scores from last year and they don’t even have the results from last year. Maxpreps and Scorestream aren’t even reliable either. Crazy that in 2024-25, you can find reputable sites for simple information like high school football schedules and scores

  7. Made a second pass through Maxpreps for all 576 (11-man teams). Yes, it takes a while. Here's what I've come up with through this morning: 265 Schedules are complete (assumes 10 game regular season beginning either Week 0 for SSAA or Week 1 for everyone else, unless out of state opponent. 311 Schedules have problems. Here's the breakdown: 218 schedules reflect less than 10 games 88 schedules are impacted by conflicts. ie. Team having more than one opponent on the same day- or- scheduled opponent has more than one opponent on that day. 5 teams have 11 games scheduled. Seems like there's a lot of information to be gathered and rectified over the next few weeks.

  9. MarkECannon, If the FHSAA pays me, I'll do it. And I'll do it right. Nolebull813, Your list of new teams looks good but I'm not too sure about Victory Christian (Kissimmee). They fielded a team awhile back for a year or two. I have a feeling it may be a "sausage fingered" entry on a couple teams schedules, and they entered the Kissimmee school instead of Victory Christian (Lakeland). Just a guess. Also, Graceland is starting up again this year after a brief hiatus.

  10. I remember back in 1907 when Lakeland got hosed by Bartow. Score was 53-0 but it was closer to all of us in attendance that day. The forward pass was invented in 1906 and Lakeland was trying it for the first time. I think the refs thought they were cheating. Anyways. Top win in Bartow history

  12. It's on our "to do" list, maybe next year if not this year. We love going to KW. We made it from The Fort in 5.5 hours last time, and that was stopping for a long lunch on Islamorada. Their stadium looks nice. I think we'll make a long weekend of it, maybe finding a Thursday game in the Miami area, then leaving on Friday morning and coming back on Monday. We've seen the Conchs play a couple of times, once at PSL West Centennial and once at Southfork. Going in September or early October, the traffic shouldn't be too bad. It won't be a high level of football, but the right opponent might give you a competitive game in a unique setting.

  18. Although not much is known yet, apparently it’s the marquee game of the “Treasure Coast Kickoff Classic”- an event being put on by the Treasure Coast Sports Commission. Nothing else has been announced but I would expect Vero to play Friday night August 15, but as they have not made any schedule announcements yet this year, so their opponent is TBD. This is the first time Vero has ever hosted an event like this, as they’ve always played a traditional KOC game that week.

  19. No the same thing is gonna happen to them that happens to every other team. They are forced to face a recruited up all star transfer team full of 4 and 5 star guys at every position and lose by 35. Just as nature intended

  20. So, is this going to be a situation where Dillard will have a fantastic regular season, going 10-0 or 9-1, and then falter in the playoffs because they didn't play anyone challenging in the regular season?

  21. Both my boys wrestle and play football. I am very familiar with the home schooled wrestlers who are free agents wrestling for the various power programs in the state. I can say with great certainty that nearly 100% will not earn a college scholarship in wrestling because wrestling is literally the hardest sport to earn a full ride in. There are only 10 collegiate weight classes compared to 14 in high school. You could be the state champ at your weight class but to wrestle at the next level, you will also have to be better than other kids at a weight class above and below you. Additionally, there are only 70 D1 wrestling schools and not a single D3, D2 or D1 team in Florida. Finally, Pennsylvania is so far above every other state in wrestling that they will take half of the scholarships, leaving crumbs for everyone else. Last note, wrestling also has very poor NIL prospects. So kids that are sacrificing their HS experience to wrestle three hours away are doing it for only high school glory, nothing else. After wrestling is over, what can they do with their shitty education? The kids I know that are home school athletes pretty much just train all day. I wonder when they even go to school at home?

  22. I agree that this is an interesting concept. But Florida has 67 counties, and what might work well in your county could be a bust in others. No question that you could potentially get more money invested, better coaching, and better quality of play with regional all-star teams. But you lost me when you state that you would get better fan support. While high school football may be transactional to some, it is still an emotional experience for many. It's not just the play on the field; it's about the sights and sounds in the stadium on Friday night, and if the home team wins, all the better. Yes, the hardcore fan will always make an effort to see an "all-star" game, but I don't think that holds true for the casual fan who knows the QB who lives down the street or has a son/daughter in the band or some other personal connection to the school. I'll travel 50 miles to see my local school play on Friday, but I personally would not travel 20 miles to see a game with just a handful of players from my local community, no matter how high the quality of play. And I think that's true of the majority of fans who typically attend games and support their local high school. My belief is you would end up with the typical AAU basketball crowd - parents, hardcore fans, scouts, and hangers-on. Again, probably a better model for the football purist, but I don't see it being more popular in terms of fan support in large parts of the state.

  25. Pretty much what I gathered above. Kick off classic games are to be played by no later then aug 15. being that the broward vs USA showcase starts August 21st-23rd, that means that every game being played on that week is officially your week 1 game, which will go on your record.

  26. Let's stick with 2025 and FHSAA teams. Preseason Kickoff Classic Games must be played on August 14-16 (i.e. Week 0). The first regular season playing date (Week 1) is August 21. Below is the schedule for the Broward County National Showcase. Any game played on or after August 21 counts as a regular season game for FHSAA teams. August 21 – Piper (Florida) vs. Peachtree Ridge (Georgia), 4 p.m. at Dillard HS August 21 – Archbishop McCarthy (Florida) at Cardinal Gibbons (Florida), 7 p.m. August 21 – Monarch (Florida) vs. Bolles School (Florida), 8 p.m. at Dillard HS August 22 – Corner Canyon (Utah) vs. West Broward (Florida), 4 p.m. at Dillard HS August 22 – American Heritage (Plantation, Florida) vs. St. Joseph’s Prep (Pennsylvania), 7 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas HS August 22 – Dr. Phillips (Florida) at Dillard (Florida), 8 p.m. August 23 – Mater Dei (California) at St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida), 4 p.m. August 23 – Chaminade-Madonna (Florida) vs. St. Frances Academy (Maryland), 8 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas HS

I know we already have a thread about “Must See” classic games, but can we compile a list of all the preseason games? They should not appear on MaxPreps (although a few do list them there). I know a few in SW Florida Aubrey Rogers @ Cape Coral Barron Collier @ Cooper City Riverdale @ Dunbar Gulf Coast @ Naples Immokalee @ South Ft. Myers Oasis @ Palmetto Ridge Sarasota Riverview @ Port Charlotte

  29. Thanks for sharing. Watched it this morning. Really enjoyed it. Got to know the MNW culture better. Loved seeing Ice Harris going off. Amazing Taurean was able to improve his test score by approximately 200 points from one test to the next. Did I get that right? Enjoyed watching him walk around the UF campus as he started realizing his college dreams. Plan on going to my share of Bulls games this year.

  31. Went to both the Lakeland contest against Woodham and then the Saturday mid-day title game against Southridge the next week. Lakeland had no answer for the superior Woodham team speed on defense in the semi-final game. The next week title contest saw a opening KR for a TD by Woodham's Kerry Watkins to set the tone for this game. Felt Southridge was the more physical team, particularly with its running game. Each time however it appeared that Southridge was about to get back into a position to maybe take a lead, Woodham would find a way to re-establish its lead on the score board. Going up for that game led me, to learning about a super Soph across town at Ecsambia HS....as Escambia was playing ST Pete high thay night for the 3A state title. Woodham and Escambia would oddly enough both play for state titles the next year as well in Bradenton against Manatee and Southeast.

  33. Interestingly, Pensacola Woodham High School closed in 2007. It reopened as a middle school later in 2007, which was also later closed. The building now houses West Florida High School. Woodham went 35-1 during the 1982-84 seasons, winning the Class 4A state championship in 1982 and 1984. They were known as the "Titans", much like another team with an epic history of their own (T.C. Williams in Alexandria, Virginia).

  34. Most Manatee die hards, consider the 1993 title game against Southridge, a nightmare game where anything that could go wrong did in fact do that. I want to say Southridge had 2 kickoff returns for TDs, 1 Punt return for a TD, at least 1 (possibly 2 INTs returned for a TD), I believe there was also a hail Mary at half for a TD. The 1984 19-14 playoff loss to Lakeland, probably burns in die hards guts than the 1993 contest. Manatee was a heavy favorite going into that game, but 2 turnovers inside the Lakeland 10 proved ultimately to be Manatees undoing and denied Manatee any chance at back to back titles

  38. Not so fast my friend. Niceville for the longest was the go to place for players. Kids weren’t going to Choctaw and they dang sure weren’t going to FWB. Don’t let the good ole boy mantra fool you. North FL has had some “magnet schools”. The talent just isn’t as good as the South. It’s not for the lack of trying.

  39. I favored Jesuit going into that game. Living in Tampa for many years I saw Jesuit play many times. Jesuit Athletics Director Terry Rupp is a class act. Pine Forest probably should have beat Jesuit that night. I believe Jesuit was overconfident going into the game. They beat Miami Northwestern in the semifinals so I think they thought the final was a mere formality. Pine Forest controlled the line of scrimmage practically all night.

    2025 Football Schedules

Vero should be very solid this year, the offense has more experience this season as they started several true freshman last year, the defense lost some talent so that will be the question mark heading into the offseason. I see them being as good as the team that lost in the 3rd round, probably a little better to be honest. The hopes are high considering the talent that is coming back, and has already transferred in, do they have state championship level talent? No, but hopes are high. I do not see them starting 0-3 like least season though. Vero QB Champ Monds went into those games last year as a true freshman who had never played a game at the high school level, now has a year under his belt, and holds 20+ offers as a rising sophomore. He has the potential to be one of the top QB’s in the country by the time he’s a senior, the question for Vero is can they keep him here. IMG has made a run at a lot of the higher profile talent in the treasure coast area the last several years.

  41. In 2020-2021, there were 57 teams between 8-man and 11-man, and now there will be 99. It's growing. A private/charter school association that has started a public school division, which doesn't accept everyone who calls, is still getting close to doubling in those few years.

  44. Wow 10-0!!!!! Ely lost some dudes including their elite QB. And none of those other teams outside of MAYYYBBEEEE Miramar has a chance. Maybe Dr Pepper, but I think Dillard gets em. Overall this is not a great schedule, but the positive is Dillard will get a lot of guys valuable playing time, and the record going into the offseason of 10-2 or 11-1 will be attractive to studs who want to be apart of something on the cusp of taking the next step

  45. It woudn't have to be strictly tied to counties. Just general regional areas. The number of programs would depend on the level of interest and number of players in a given area. Dade/broward area might have 5+ programs, while Polk/Heartland might have 1-2, for example. The key phrase you mention in deciding what game to attend is "my local school". This seems to be more about them being the local program, rather than it being your alma mater. This would still be an option for you, as the idea is to have higher caliber programs that represent a geographic area. You'd root for your local team against a strong team from another area. All of the players on your local team are from your area, though they can attend a variety of schools for academics. A Manatee county program can appeal to all of the residents of Manatee county, including those who may have attended historically poor programs when they were at each individual school. Now, if Bayshore is your high school, you're basically frozen out of having a team to root for that can win. It's been that way for decades. Manatee (and Southeast back in the day) have been so dominant that it's got to be hard to get excited to even a tiny degree. Because a form of what I propose already exists to a lesser, informal extent, the lower level programs are actually much worse now than the past. Bayshore failed to score a single point in eight (8) games last year. How many fans attended their games? Contrast that with the number of people who'd like to support the program if it was ever a little bit close to mattering. I bet there's plenty of folks who'd be willing to invest time/money, but are abstaining because it is hopeless. Sharply reducing the number of programs as I propose allows all of the folks in the Bradenton area to unite around 1 strong team. Everyone is included, regardless of where academic classes occur. Each Friday night would see the Manatee county area program face another strong program from another area. For example, the Manatee elite program vs. East Hillsborough elite one week. Another week, Manatee vs. Sarasota elite. Etc. All the best players, coaches and all in the community who want a team to root for are consolidated. Ticket sales, booster contributions and other investments are consolidated into a much smaller number of elite programs. You see this to a small degree in a place like Texas, where there are fewer but larger high schools with mega support. Allen High, for example, is known for having massive, super impressive facilities. But, Allen High has over 5,000 students! They could've very easily split that up into three high schools. And then all three would be smaller, with potential stars and donors diluted to the point that none of the three programs offer anything remotely close to what the huge Allen High offers now. At a super large school, everything end up being bigger or more robust. Academically, many feel that comes with trade-off costs. So, it may not be the case that super large schools are best overall for students. BUT, when it comes to sports programs, the benefits are obvious. If you separate schools from mega, for-profit sports programs, school enrollment doesn't matter any more. A Manatee county area super program pulling in fans from all over the area, could be something very special. Of course, they'd face special programs from other areas as well. So, the quality of play would be better. Also, with fewer programs in this super league, the need for officials is also less. This should lead to cutting the worst performing officials and eliminate the shortage we face currently. I've never gotten the impression that AAU teams were tied to geographic areas and regional pride. And, the AAU championships have never been seen as THE championships. They're also held in summer, when folks aren't paying attention to basketball. But, sure, considerations around how to avoid making such a league another kind of AAU thing would be important.

  46. Interesting concept and we should be open to consider these kinds of possibilities going forward as the current environment for HS football is not ideal.

  47. No, Rise Prep is a remote school where you typically dual enroll between online HS classes and Dade county community college classes, of which I'm sure most will choose the online DCCC class offerings. Student athletes at RPA can then choose any school to play for. This is how Broward athletes can attend. While RPA seems legit academically, the sketchy part is their role in sports where they are nothing short of true hired guns sent to various teams in the area. It just never "feels right" that a big portion of West Boca's team doesn't even attend West Boca.

  49. I thought that the classic happened same week of KOC but counted towards record due to it being against an out of state opponent, just like when we have teams play the week of KOC out of state with those games counting. So since it's against an in-state opponent they may just treat those type of games in the classic as KOC games. Unless those games counted last year
