The 954 traveled south of County line road & won 3 State Championships, 2 of them VS unbeaten teams. 2 blowouts & a good competitive game vs Orlando Jones. Congrats boys.

WB considered south Fla also so that would be 5 of 7 titles. But who’s counting……..lol

This is why the championships should always be in South Florida. The area who puts in the most participants should get the games near their area. It was a travesty having South Florida teams travel to Tallahassee for a game.

While South Florida may have the most champions this year, Central Florida has the most participants.  By your logic, the championships should be played in Orlando or similar central Florida location.  Good idea!

This FIU venue is my top rated venue followed by Drive Pink (except main parking lot was gravel, terrible, $20 a game also).  Location is obviously the main negative for both.  Florida’s population growth has allowed  better football to be played in Central Florida.  

You can talk location all day but the real deal is privates dominating public.

Even though I became a fan of this year’s Kowboys I love to see West Boca emerge.

8 classes and 5 will be public school champions. So this myth of private school dominance is just that. A myth.

Privates advantages over publics have been my beef for years.  But as everyone seems to agree the real problem is transfers.  Don't know this to be a fact, but I did hear the announcers claim in our game this happened in reverse.  Apparently, WB gain came at the expense of Cardinal Gibbons demise.  Could that be true??

CG no longer handing out the scholarships they used to. Kids left likely because of that.

Privates won 5 championships last year.  One year does not a trend make.  Maybe enlarge your sample size.

And 2022 was a wash.  But one might ask why do privates (18% of FHSAA football schools) win as many state championships as the publics (82% of FHSAA schools)?  If things were equal, privates should win far fewer championships.  While I respect your opinion, it does not make it an established fact.  Clearly there are some underlying differences between publics and privates that account for this factual, statistical disparity in success rates.  Not to mention that many high school athletic associations have chosen to separate out publics from privates, even Georgia!  Guess they are all mistaken, too.  Or just have a different opinion.

Is Polk the other? I remember small schools like Fort Meade and Bartow, as well as Haines City used to be very good in the 1980s and 90s.

No.  Dade, Broward and Palm Beach.  Polk has sent 3 teams to the finals 4 times in the same season, but only came away with 2 winners each time.  Runner-ups in bold: 

• 1996: Lakeland, Bartow, Frostproof
• 1999: Lakeland, Frostproof, Ft. Meade
• 2004: Lakeland, Ft. Meade, Lake Gibson
• 2005: Lakeland, Evangel (Lakeland), Ft. Meade 

Regarding the other Polk teams you mentioned, they all had at least 1 title appearance before Lakeland got its 1st in '86.  Matter of fact, Auburndale, Haines City, Kathleen, Bartow, Ft. Meade and Frostproof collectively made 10 trips to the big show while winning 4 titles before Lakeland.  Winter Haven is the oldest school in Polk yet to make an appearance in the FHSAA era. Given their location and the current landscape, it may never happen.
