2020 Transfer Season

Recommended Posts

I would truly love to get some feedback from a handful of college coaches as to whether they see such school-hopping (playing at a different high school each season) as a red flag.   Is a kid who does this in high school more likely to do it in college?  If that's the sentiment, would a college focus their recruiting efforts on another equally talented player who doesn't have a nomadic history?

I'm guessing that with the uber-talented kids, the 4- and 5-star guys, the colleges are willing to take their chances and convince themselves that their school will be the one where the kid finally settles down for four years.

Has anyone on this board ever spoken with a college coach about this issue?

A couple Gibbons kids already transferred to St. Thomas and a couple Monarch kids including All County Sophomore QB have transferred to Deerfield. Transfer season has definitely already started.

A few years ago I interviewed for a coaching job at Monarch. The head coach there hates Deerfield bc they've basically turned Monarch into a feeder school for them

At least two Tampa Jesuit players, including the starting QB and a college-prospect DB, have transferred to Gaither.  And from what I hear, there may be more on the way.  Is Gaither becoming the next Armwood?

Speaking of Armwood, they've already lost one of their D1 prospect WR's (Agiye Hall) to IMG and reports have their other D1 prospect WR (Charles Montgomery) returning to Bloomingdale for his senior season.   And the rumor on the street now is that Armwood's QB for the last two years, Cam'ron Ransom, may be heading east on I-4 to play his senior season at Lakeland.     Is Armwood becoming the next Gaither?  :P

Not terribly surprising to hear Ransom may end up at Lakeland. But, I'm not sure he'll be an upgrade over Mason Martin. Shockingly, Chayil Garnett was not an upgrade. Martin had Lakeland's offense looking good before Garnett came back from injury. Garnett failed to distinguish himself from 0* Dymonski McWilliams IMO.

Whoa how do you leave an elite academic institution like Jesuit for a garbage ghetto school like Gaither? Talk about having your priorities out of whack.

my kid goes to Gaither and it sucks. Our old address is zoned for it so we let him go. We are pulling him out at the end of the year. He only goes because it’s close to my job and my little ones school. Not worth it

Not a good time for Viera to lose players. They are going to play Atlanta Westlake in the Cam Newton Classic and Westlake has been getting transfers and returns 16 starters

Well they lost their starting QB Bryce and the Housey brothers to Rockledge.

Rockledge the new Cocoa?  Rockledge has a way tougher road to get to or win states.  They should go back to Cocoa

One Cocoa player left for Palm Bay and the other for Eau Gallie

    • I understand your point.   From my perspective, it just shows the fallacy of trying to determine who the "best" teams are before the playoff games have been played.    Again, I see your point, but I'd have a tough time seeding a district runner-up over all the district winners except for one and giving a district runner-up the home-field advantage over all the district winners except for one.  Winning a district ought to count for something and penalizing a district winner (with a lower RPI and, therefor, a seeding worse than a district runner-up) because the other teams in its district had a bad year just doesn't sit right with me.
    • Right, but if the purpose of seeding is to ensure that the best teams are making the regional finals and the #5 seed is better than the #2 and #3 seed, then the #5 seed shouldn't meet the #1 seed until the finals. Either way, I think the system added a little intrigue, but only because the MaxPreps system is not as transparent as the RPI system.

    • Do you still think I had Columbia too high after they beat 20th ranked in the state Lincoln (maxpreps) to win a district Championship while down 2 starters with injury?     Said it before, I'll say it again   Nobody knows Columbia better than me, if I put them somewhere or give insight on them there's always a reason behind it
