    Lakeland, WHAT!!! #7

This may not have been Lakeland’s most vaunted team but they never gave up. The mountain was high but dammit not impossible to climb. Damn the naysayers, the hell with the critics. Always underestimated, never intimidated. DREADNAUGHT NATION!!!!!!!! L-TOWN, POLK COUNTY!!!!! Congratulations to the nationally ranked St Thomas Raiders on a great season.

    Here is a Daisy Chain!!!

Gotta love chains! I sent this to a die hard UCF fan last year after their loss to LSU. It shows how using the “chains” you can create a winning scenario and rarely lose an argument as long as both teams have at least one loss. This proves that using chains to find better teams, non scholarship Division 3 Alfred State Pioneers who won 1 game in 2018, could have beaten last year’s UCF squad. The most hilarious part about you wasting your time to make up these points, none of them matter to the actual rules. UCF went undefeated and was ranked #1 by an NCAA Major Selector which makes them a National Champ for 2017.

Going to do my best to compile a list of available streams, both free and paid (NFHS), for each week of the season. Words can’t desceibe how I feel right now in a game that was 28-20 with some dillard driving late in the 4th @DarterBlue2 @ColumbiaHighFan2017class Thats when reality set in that we are really going toe to toe with the number 2 team in Florida and the number 10 team in the nation. And as tears roll down my face I’m just so proud of this team the strides and growth they made to the point MIAMI CENTRAL fans on the score stream thread was surprised and even said maybe it’s a new 6A contender on the scene!! They were talking about DILLARD!! As 30 point underdogs we came in and fought head up with one of the nations best where before we have been getting blown out by state ranked competition let alone nation ranked. All in all Dillard has nothing to be ashamed of if anything it showed they they will be a force next year because with more then half the team being underclass they will only get better as long as they stay in house IM SO DAM PROUD OF U PANTHERS WHAT A AWESOME SEASON PAWS UP!!!

    The Agenda Buster

It is funny that Lakeland people are saying that they don't recruit when the entire "High School Free Agency" bill that was introduced by representatives of Polk County was because the FHSAA punished Lakeland for a couple of kids transferring for athletic reasons. And the fact that our state legislature hates public schools.

    Spring games begin

Tonight I went to watch Lake Nona at Timber Creek. As a North West Orange County guy, this was way over on the other side of town. But I had a suspicion it would be a good game and I was not disappointed. The score when I left with 2:40 remaining in the 4th was TC 16 Nona 14. I left because a decent crowd was there and I wanted to beat the traffic given I had an hours drive to get home. On offense Nona had three athletes 18, 4 and 9,who impressed me. 18 was their QB who has a good arm, maintains his composure well, and though not a dual threat, is able to evade defenders well buying a second or so to get rid of the ball. No 4 is a tall rangy receiver who reminds me size wise of Harding at West Orange last year. He lacks the athleticism of Hardin, but makes up for it with his ability to go up and get the ball and his safe hands and good route running. No 9 lined up mostly in the slot and made several good plays. He also played corner and performed well on the defensive side too. On offense TC displayed an undersized QB, no 5, Tanner who has a decent arm for his size and makes good decisions. I was somewhat disappointed with their line play but the offensive line is bound to improve under coach Z's capable hands. My sense is that both of these teams, though neither is a state contender at this stage, had solid chances of making the playoffs and could win a game or two in the post season. I thought LN utilized the game better in terms of giving more guys touches particularly in the second half. Despite the rather long trip, I don't regret making this game, and when Apopka has a soft opponent I could see myself going to watch either of these teams during the regular season.

    Apopka Coach on the Move?

Any true fan of Apopka football is appreciative of what he has done with the program. Before RD, Apopka was a difficult Central Florida team to play. He upped the ante and made the program a state threat. Should Mr. Darlington depart, I wish him success in Alabama. He certainly gave me many memorable moments while he has coached the Blue Darters.

    Thank you Gadsden

you might have went 0-9 but hopefully you blew this point system up. I hope the FHSAA does some real research and makes some major changes to the system. Not just have a meeting and raise points for losses because a few AD's want that and think it will help. They tried to make sure a BTW didn't happen again last year and now they have egg on their face with Gadsden. Congrats Gadsden you might not have won on the field but you beat the hell out of the FHSAA. I think you put a running clock on them.

    RPI is a joke

I actually liked it when we had champ, runner up and wildcards. Cut to 12 districts instead of 16 and that increases the teams in each district and allows 2 extra in each region to make it in case you are in a district of death. Then you can seed by some point system. We are using some bull shit formula to see who gets in. We might as well just roll a dice or flip a coin.

Miami-Dade County high school football has its very own version of “A League of their Own” this season. With county powers Northwestern, Central, Booker T. Washington and Columbus, to name a few, having taken over the landscape in terms of domination and stacking rosters with top talent on an annual basis, the likes of Reagan, Goleman Coral Park, Varela and other programs have been left in the dust. Rather than get discouraged, the “little guys” who weren’t so little in terms of school size, went out and did something about it. With Reagan coach John Lopez, assistant coach Jorge Rojas along with the GMAC leading the way, months of contacting other schools to get them on board, along with informing the FHSAA that they would not be participating in the state series when it came to football, eventually led to the berth of the Miami-Dade County Football Conference. All 12 schools will still continue to be very much a part of the GMAC, they simply will not participate in the FHSAA state football playoffs come November. “This gives us a chance to be competitive and to be honest a sense of fairness since the entire county has now kind of become an entire group of either ‘haves’ or ‘have-nots,’ ” said Lopez who is the only coach the Reagan program has ever known, starting it from scratch 12 years ago. “Speaking just for Reagan, being capped out enrollment-wise, we’ve always taken pride in just simply figuring out how to play with whatever comes in the doors. Obviously we weren’t the only ones with this problem. Other schools were in the same boat and that’s when we started to put together the idea of doing something like this.” A total of 12 programs joined up to form the conference that is split into two divisions of six, a south division and a north. Forming the south are Braddock, Coral Park, Sunset, Reagan, Varela and Ferguson. Goleman, Hialeah-Miami Lakes, Mourning, Krop, Hialeah Gardens and Westland Hialeah are in the north. Both out of the gate with 3-0 starts, Goleman and Krop would appear to be the two best teams in this group of a dozen. “Our kids are excited for it, our coaches are excited for it I’m excited for it and our school is excited for it,” said Goleman head coach Ariel Cribiero. “I’d like to think that teams and programs that do it the right way and build with their own kids that this is our way of rewarding those kids. We’re a magnet school, our kids are smart, going to Ivy League schools, not necessarily to play football. We want to give them a great experience and going to this independent league will give them that opportunity.” The set up will be relatively simple. Each team will play the other five in its own division and then four other games against teams from the opposite division for a total of nine games. The 10th game (including a bye week) will be played the final regular season week (Oct. 31-Nov. 2). “We will pair up the two sixth-place teams against each other, then the fifth place and so on up to third place,” Rojas said. “Whoever finishes first and second will qualify for our playoffs on that weekend as well. The two semifinals will be first place from one division playing second from the other division and vice versa.” The two semifinal winners will then meet in the championship game, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9 at a neutral site, possibly Milander Stadium. “This new conference, it’s not going to be any different in that we’re going to come out with the same attitude every week play football the way we know how to play,” said Reagan senior quarterback Johnny Vega. “It’s a matter of knowing that we have to beat whoever is in front of us. But now we’ll shoot to win the championship in our conference and that’s going to be pretty cool.”

    Spring Game 2

So, I watched the first three quarters of the Winter Park vs Dr. Phillips game tonight. I had to leave at the end of the third as I had another commitment. Both teams showed well. When I left, Winter Park held a 21-7 lead. However, the Sentinel reports that Dp. rallied to win 28-21 in the fourth quarter. Sorry I was not able to stay for the fireworks. Thoughts on the game: Both teams are solid. Dp. should have scored first as a half back pass delivered by Patti (I am guessing he is related to Nick and is the same style QB), found a wide open receiver in stride. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, after hauling it in, he stumbled and fell. On the next play Patti threw an interception which WP proceeded to drive down field and score. DP utilized two QBs, Patti and the tall kid that transferred from West Orange last year. Patti is quite the athlete, and it is kind of like having a running back with a good arm playing QB. However, he threw two picks before leading DP to their fourth quarter comeback. For me, as of now, I would take the WO transfer as my starter, but we shall see. Winter Park looked good which they don't usually do in the spring. The have a number of very athletic kids at receiver who can make plays after the catch and the QB is capable of tucking the ball and running for decent yardage. Perhaps the most interesting thing I noted was that the WP defensive interior, which was undersized and did not look that impressive to the eye, was able to contain the DP running game well for the three quarters I saw. Look for both of these teams to make a run in 8A come fall.

    Freedom Bowl games

Don’t write these FL teams off just yet. Brentwood Academy plays in a watered down playoff, and was in a dog fight with an average private Texas team two years ago. Barely won 21-14 and was considered national top 50 UMS won state but it was a small school title, and outside the state top 5, Alabama can be pretty pedestrian. Chaminade was in a dog fight because the coaching is lacking. Western has been trending upwards the last few years. Winter Park has came out of nowhere like Wekiva due to the rise in transfers. If they continues then they could hold their own. Hoover lost a stud to transfer and isn’t the Hoover of old. Cocoa can surprise them for sure. I don’t have high expectations, I just hope to God they can all make it competitive

The catch is that any student at the charter school who don't play is off the count So it's easy to game the system (they kinda clever I wish we could do that)

    48-6 Madison

We really need at different system in place if one school has a disproportionate amount of students over another and they're in the same quote unquote class. I checked last year's numbers however in the schools were within a hundred students of each other give or take. That said I didn't know about the charter school thing so if they are opening their football team up to another several hundred kids in a charter school that is completely unfair because it's like doubling the size of the school.
  46. 4 points
I liked to be challenged a few times a year but if you have a great team you can get just as much challenge in practice. If you are really good you get more out of practices constructed to compete than games.

Sorry, but I don't care what playoff system you use. When you have 6+ classes and this many teams in the playoffs, there will be big blowouts. Playoff games with 60 point margins were almost unheard of prior to 2000.

    Great year for Heartland football

I don't recall this ever happening before. Hardee. Desoto, Sebring, Avon Park, Lake Placid, Fort Meade, Frostproof, and Lake Wales are all in the playoffs.

    3A, week 10

Class 3A, Week 10 rankings: #1) Chaminade-Madonna: Chaminade scored a quality win over a good, but not great Doral Academy team 47-17. In the game Chaminade had multiple TD's called back and quite honestly could have won 80-7. As mentioned last week, the Lions have hit their stride at this point in the season and it's hard seeing anybody slow them down right now. I kept them ranked #1 this week due to the early season win over Muscle Shoals. The Trojans have gone on to great success and should finish their season in Alabama 8-2. Also, I'm giving a tip of the hat to their win over Booker T who would then go on to compete for 3 quarters against Carol City. As far as week 10 is concerned, I see another 70-0 type win over hapless Flanagan before setting up a huge week 11 game over the current #1 team in Class 4A, University School. #2) Clearwater Central Catholic: Many computer polls had Tampa Jesuit as a top 15 team in the state (highest being Pinkos who had them at #11). Many felt that if CCC was going to pull off the upset it would need to be a high scoring, overtime type game where maybe Jesuit didn't bring their A game. Remarkably, CCC gave up only 2 field goals in the win and shut down the vaunted Jesuit rushing attack. I'm personally impressed they did this without the services of 4 starters, including superstar Jerzhan Newton. While I believe this is the best individual win any 3A team has scored this year, I believe Chaminades body of work up to this point is slightly better than CCC's, even with 2 losses. Now, if the Marauders win on Friday against undefeated Cardinal Mooney that could change. #3) Sarasota Cardinal Mooney: When it comes to Florida High School football coaches in Florida, few are more respected than Cardinal Mooney coach Paul Maechtle who has racked up 290 victories and 2 state championships in his career. He inherited a highly talented team at Mooney that was ready to make a deep run in the playoffs. RB Trayvon Hall has had a special season in 2018 continually running past defenders. Mooney has put together a series of quality wins, but they haven't earned that signature win. That could come this week when the CCC Marauders arrive in town boasting a 22 game regular season winning streak. #4) Benjamin School: Because the Buccaneers play in the same region as Chaminade- it's easy to overlook the quality of play coming out of Benjamin. Benjamin has won 15 of their last 18 regular season games, including being undefeated so far in 2018. Kaiir Elam is having a phenominal season with 650 all purpose yards and 4 TD's, but it's the Buccaneer rushing attack that has really come to the attention of opposing defenses. Benjamin has 4 running backs that have run for at least 200 yards this season, 3 of which have rushed for at least 300 yards. The Buccaneers are playing high quality football and look to finish the season undefeated against rival and also high performing King's Academy. #5) Tampa Berkeley Prep: There were a lot of teams considered for this #5 spot as there's a proverbial jammed highway here, but it was determined to give the spot to Berkeley Prep. Berkeley has 2 losses, but they were early season losses to two undefeated teams that are currently in the top 75 of Maxprep and other polls. Berkeley has also scored quality wins over Tampa Catholic, Lakeland Christian and Mitchell. This weeks comes a defensive challenge from a good 6-3 Tampa Sickles quad to finish the season. If you haven't seen Berkeley Prep QB Joshua Youngblood play, you owe yourself to check out his Hudl highlights. ROUNDING OUT THE TOP 10 #6) Tampa Catholic: Crusaders continue to impress after a strong 15-3 win over #4 state ranked team Bishop Verot. The hype has already started for 11/2 when Tampa Catholic hosts Jesuit. #7) Florida High School: The Seminoles fought hard, but eventually dropped the game against a high quality Wakulla team. It doesn't get easier this week with Godby on tap. #9) American Heritge Delray- The Stallions had a great opening to their season, but have stumbled in previous weeks. Still, at 5-3 AH-D can finish the season strong against Key West and Everglades Pre. #10) Baldwin: The Indians were upset last week against Santa Fe, but Florida High lost as well- thus, if the Indians can win out they stand a good chance to grabbing the #1 seed in the region if Florida High stumbles against Godby. GAMES OF THE WEEK: Clearwater Central Catholic (9-0) at Cardinal Mooney (8-0) This game is likely a preview of a regional finals match in mid November as both teams are expected to finish #1 and #2 in the region. THE PICK: Cardinal Mooney has had a strong season and will be a formidable foe. I have no doubt that Mooney will make things interesting for a half, but CCC is playing for a 2nd consecutive undefeated season and more importantly, home field advantage throughout the playoffs. CCC 38, Mooney 14 King's Academy vs Benjamin North Palm Beach meets West Palm Beach in this is a very interesting Class 3A Region 2 vs Region 3 match. King's Academy comes in with 1 loss, Benjamin is undefeated. THE PICK: These are two really good teams that I can see having success in the playoffs. I expect both teams to finish the season at category 1 teams, so there's lots of points on the board. I don't think either team has played a super challenging schedule, but they've won the games they should. I expect a close contest, but the Bucs seal it with a late fumble. Benjamin 35, King's 28 OTHER GAMES Baldwin over West Nasseau by 3. (West Nasseau plays Baldwin on Monday, 10/29- it will be their 2nd game in 3 days). Berkeley Prep over Sickles by 10 Orlando First Academy over Lake Highland Prep by 28 Calvary Christian (C-Water) over IMG White by 42 Chaminade-Madonna over Flanagan by 50+ North Marion over Ocala Trinity by 21 St. Pete Catholic over Gulf by 14 Pensacola Catholic over Pensacola Pace by 7 Lakeland Christian over Avon Park by 14 University School over Melbourne Central Catholic by 42 AH-D over Key West by 21 Fort White over Newberry by 35+ Glades Central over Cardinal Newman by 20
