For all you clowns who said metro suburb plan would create parity, looks like same group of suburb teams who were awesome before and made semi finals regularly are the only ones who benefitted from the plan. But, you crushed many metro schools with a  huge enrollment number which led to more blowouts in district play. Nice.

Put all cheaters in same couple of divisions with promotion and demotion is only real solution to  the recruiting problem.

Here are the state match ups. Mandarin (Jacksonville) vs. Columbus (Miami) - Gee never saw Columbus in finals huh and mandarin won a couple of years ago.

Homestead vs. St. Thomas Aquinas - Rematch of last years state game

Class 2MBerkeley Prep (Tampa) vs. Miami Norland- Norland new but had many transfers to get  good.

1MClearwater Central Catholic vs.Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood) Florida- Chaminade should be in 4m..

Class 1RMadison County (Madison) vs. HawthorneDec.  Madison should be in 3 M

4SLakeland vs. VeniceDec - surprise...never saw these two in state game before.  Lakeland State House Rep started this whole crap.

.  3SMainland (Daytona Beach) vs. St. Augustine-  these teams were state semi-finalsts regularly before break up and both won state before.

Class 2SBradford (Starke) vs. Cocoa - Cocoa is such a lock to win state here that even Fanduel would not post odds on it.

1STrinity Catholic (Ocala) vs. Cardinal Mooney (Sarasota) - Never saw Trinity before.

Playing for  "State"  championships are nice, but something rings hollow to me when the large urban area's of the stateMiami, Ft Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville are all legislated out of the way and they still call it a state championship. Calling it a Junior Championship would be more appropriate. But that's just my opinion, nothing more.

Yeah these are area titles. Not state titles. You separate the teams by enrollment so they are in different classes. If you are in 3A you can’t win the 1A title. (Unless you are Madison County) ;) so by being separate you can only be considered champ of one class

So if you separate the teams by area of the state then technically it’s not a state title. It an area title. The area being rural, metro or suburban.

Just to be clear, the purpose of the 2022 Metro-Suburban reclassification was not to create "parity".  Parity is defined as equality, meaning the intent would be for the vast majority of teams to finish at .500.  The NFL strives for parity using a salary cap, draft in reverse order of best record, a more difficult schedule in the following year for teams with the best records, etc.  The intent of the 2022 reclassification was to achieve "equity", or fairness; also known as "like vs. like" and "a level playing field".  There is nothing in an equity model to prevent a team from winning a title multiple years in a row.  Whether the Metro-Suburban reclassification actually made things fairer for more teams is open to debate.  There are winners and losers in any reorganization, be it in business or high school football.  The fact that the FHSAA is considering returning to an enrollment-based classification system should provide hope for those who see the current system as flawed, given that some of the proposals floated here will never fly in the FHSSA world.

So, I'm just wondering . . . if Venice beats Lakeland this year, does the legislature suddenly dictate that the FHSAA switch things around so that Sarasota County becomes a Metro county?   B)

Now wouldn't that be funny. Putting Venice in Metro would make it very difficult for Tampa and Orlando area teams to have  a shot at a state title in 4M.

But it might make it 'dread'fully easier for a team 45 minutes east of Tampa to make it.  B)

I said from day 1 that the suburb division (which is crap anyway because the leaders cherry picked which counties they wanted to be in Metro and suburb with some bs population density ) was the minor league even though they have some major league programs like Lakeland and Venice. They sold us a bill of goods about parity for suburb schools but only helped a few awesome semi finalist become champs. Rest of metro schools got screwed.

Actually, 4S is likely at least as strong as 4M. And a good argument can be made that it's stronger.

You would think so but the schedules are easier so the teams achieve better records. And if the strength is only based on just the top teams, then 1M would be considered great with Chaminade leading the charge.

But they added a class so everything is even more watered down than it already was. So this split was an excuse to add another class since more classes brings in more money from playoff and championship gates.

The product will always be watered down and diluted until they merge the state into 5 classes. And for the people crying that it won’t be fair for certain teams just know there will ALWAYS be people crying! Chaminade won by 30 last year in the finals. They will win by 30 again this year. Is that fair? How do you fix that? The answer is you cant! The best teams deserve to be champs. You can’t fix the problem by watering it down to the point everyone get a trophy at the end. It’s disgusting

Not to mention that if the Super-32 proposal goes through, there will then be 10(!) playoff brackets, and 10 "state" champions.  But skimming the top 3-5 teams out of each classification for the Super-32 will create opportunities for the good, but not elite, teams that remain in whatever classifications the FHSAA puts in place.

That’ would be an ultimate travesty

How do you fix it? You stop high school teams from recruiting. Most of the top football teams have a high rate of transfers in. IMG at least admits that they are a school that recruits the best for all sports. As a result of that they are not eligible for the playoffs and are not really considered a standard high school. With recruiting any HS team can become an artificial powerhouse without ever having much more than a few token players from the district that they are in. HS sports have been turned into mini NFL teams with families that come out to see their son do not much more than bench time or they don't come out at all because he has not even joined the team. Sad state of affairs where it's become more important to pad the egos of a few narcissistic teenagers and their coaches than to build character in all players that have  joined the team or the one's that could have joined the team. B)

Cut the classes down to 5, and then maybe have a rule that says if you have a certain amount of football transfers in one year (pick a number 5,8,10 etc) then you have to compete in an open division bracket for the playoffs

Technically IMG is eligible for the playoffs now

Metro Orlando has a good record of putting teams in the finals. Unfortunately, we don't have that many titles to show for our efforts mostly due to South Florida.

I believe STA would running clock all the suburban teams that are in the finals this weekend, he'll I think they would even beat Chaminade too

I wonder why STA never plays IMG? The two best teams in Florida should play at least once every couple of years. Other Florida teams manage to play the national IMG team with a few that play the various other color IMG teams. Miami Central doesn't seem to have any problem with playing the national team every year.

    • If a PBC kicking team player touched the football during a free kick in the neutral zone without any FPC receiving team player touching the football, that would be first touching by K, and a bean bag should have been thrown at the yard line of the first touch, not a flag. First touching is not a penalty, it its more like a violation.
    • West Broward is playing Monarch The Pickem has West Boca Raton playing Monarch
    • Just a terrific high school football game from start to finish, with one of the most bizarre officiating sequences I've ever seen. PBC and FPC were tied 14-14 at the half. PBC completely shut the FPC running game down, but QB Drew LaPlante kept the chains moving with the short and intermediate passing game and hit WR Marquan Burgess across the middle and he ran away from the Bronco secondary for a 67 yard TD to put the Cobras up 28-21 early in the 4th. Bronco QB Chase Routson led them on a long drive, and with 1:26 to go, hit WR Jayden St Fort for an 18 yard TD to make it 28-27. I thought for sure it would go to OT, but the snap was just a little off and the holder took a split second longer to get it down, throwing the timing off and the kicker pushed it wide right to keep it at 28-27. On the onside kick attempt, a PBC defender CLEARLY touched the football before it went 10 yards, and the flag came out immediately by the closest official. PBC recovered the ball around midfield, but the football was correctly awarded to FPC at the 47 where it was first touched by the kid from PBC. The FPC offense and the PBC defense took the field and and were approaching the LOS, when PBC used a timeout, which I thought was odd because I was sure they only had 2, and would need both to have even a slim shot to get the football back. That's when the fun started. After a lengthy discussion, the officials changed their minds, and said that it was PBC's football...but not at the point where it was recovered. They moved the football back to the PBC 35 with no apparent signal of a penalty. I've seen penalties waved off in high school, but I have NEVER seen a call like that reversed after that length of time. After all that, PBC moved down to FG range, but a holding call and a sack left them with the football at the FPC 43 with 4 seconds to go. Routson's pass on the Hail Mary was all you could ask for, and he had 2 WR going up for it in a crowd of FPC defensive backs, and after it was tipped, a Cobra DB came away with it to preserve the win. FPC will host Doc Phillips next week.  We also saw a FIT game on Thursday night with @MarkECannon at Doc Garcia as the Bulldogs hosted the Sarasota Sailors. It was another highly entertaining back and forth game that was tied 21-21 after one quarter, and still a 41-33 game with Doc Garcia leading early in the 4th, but Sarasota's defense was gassed and Garcia started gashing them on the ground to come away with a 55-33 win. Still, I loved getting an extra game in this week, and love the FIT setup. If those kids and coaches want to keep playing and coaching, why not? On a side note, Palm Beach Central had a QB that I saw play as a freshman and sophomore named Cade Butler. I wondered whatever became of him, as he was no longer at PBC after the Routson kid transferred from Boca to PBC a couple of years ago. It turns out that Butler is the QB at Doc Garcia now. He was MONEY on Thursday night, and I'd guess was well over 300 yards passing with 4 TD.
    • You're not kidding, on the Matchups. I was about to do a coin toss to pick a couple of them.
    • It's flawed because the system isn't doing what it claimed to do  Going further back into the past only deludes the product even more. The fhsaa thought moving away from metro suburban and returning to student enrollment as the only measure of classifications did exactly what i said it would do and look at the playoff results last week if you don't believe me. Pretty sure the average margin of victory was over 30 points for the entire state of Florida  Seeding should absolutely be earned we just need a better formula for it
