I can't believe the school year and football season is around the corner.  Maybe it's just me, but I'm not overly excited.  Maybe it's because in 2024 with all the technological immersion, we still don't have a single resource that has all the completed football schedules.  While we wait on those completed schedules (which isn't guaranteed during or ever after the season), SOUND OFF and let everyone know that you're still here.

Has the All State Teams from the 2023-2024 season even been released yet?

You think Lakeland is going to beat Central

I think it'll be an ugly defensive struggle with a few big plays in between. No way to predict for sure until we see the actual rosters come August. I hear Lakeland will have many more transfers (central likely as well), but I can't know for sure. Some of the kids themselves may not even know!

Maybe I missed the joke here but I can't seem to find any all-state teams from last year?  Google is a mess if you search for it so maybe I just missed it?

No Booker T?

I think a season where Armwood goes unbeaten with most or all games being blowouts is going to be interesting. Their taking of most of Sumner's best players appears to be completely overlooked by most. I don't think people realize this may be the best Armwood team ever, based on raw talent. I just think folks who have no clue about the 2024 team will dismiss that claim out of hand.

Agree. I’m in contact for years with a diehard Armwood fan & this year is their best team in quite awhile, if ever! Nice opener VS Norland will be a good one.

Yeah BTW & Homestead. Broncos get a stud QB from Jersey, plus STA ain’t in their class this year. Big things for the Broncos.
it’ll probably be Gibbons vs BTW for the region in 2a.

I'm pretty sure the Armwood-Norland game is a kickoff classic. But, I'm also pretty sure both teams will be playing their best to win. Hopefully the Section 104 boys can give us a stream!

KOC, first game to start the season, or scrimmage….Both teams will leave it all in the field. Both teams will be 0-0 after this game but don’t think for a second it won’t influence the national polls!!!!

Well, I think the result SHOULD influence rankings. BUT, in states where the NFL is king (California being a prime example), people think the KOC is akin to an NFL exhibition. It's a ridiculous assumption in many cases. But, many seem determined not to change their minds.

My enthusiasm for the upcoming season is tempered by the reality that 95% of teams have no chance of winning a state championship.  I personally don't feel this is good for the long-term health of Florida high school football, but others may disagree.  I don't want to rehash the Metro-Suburban argument, but I foresee a large number of blowouts in the playoffs this year.

Here in northwest Florida, a great season is when several teams make it to a Region final game.  In the current environment, the odds of a team from northwest Florida winning a state title are almost zero, maybe once in 10 years if the stars align perfectly.  So it is a matter of adjusting expectations and enjoying the spirit of high school football where it exists.  Yes, there are a handful of transfers in these parts, but generally there is a "community" feel to the competition.  Here, attendance is generally very good, rivalries are intense, the bands are robust, and the players play hard, even if they are not the most talented.

I will be rooting for some underdogs across the state to make a run this year, but the reality is the usual suspects will likely dominate again.  Good luck to each of your teams!  One month until kickoff...

Yea I would like to see any team from the panhandle be competitive, but several factors make it nearly impossible for a team to be competitive every year for a chance at state.

The best one can hope for is Niceville or one of the Escambia county teams making a deep run. Like Pine Forest did a few seasons ago. But winning is a tall order.

Baker did clinch a title though. And small schools are the only ones who may have a consistent shot at winning. But big schools have a tall order at winning a title.

I still enjoy the spirit of football as you mention. Go to any Niceville vs Crestview game, and their stands are packed to the gills.

I’m looking forward to the chaminade vs st Thomas game. It’s about time these two national powerhouses meet (WHEN THEY’RE BOTH ELITE) this matchup is long over due. And will most def be there lords willing.

as for my panthers , do I see us winning a title this year ? Honestly right now , NO. So taking that expectation out. I’m very interested in seeing what do I second year head coach has under his belt. He made a few adjustments to the coaching staff, we have a lot of talent that came in from lil league and from JV. They looked very good vs a very good monarch team in a game that felt like a playoff game ; but again that was also a spring game.

I see us having a good regular season winning between 7-8 games maybe 9-10 if we can stay healthy and make strides during the season.

for Dillard if we can make it to the second round or dare I say to the regional finals that would be a successful year for my panthers and a major step in the right direction.

in this new district we’re in we have no sta , no central , northwestern, no BTW, no gibbons , no chaminade. BUT we have norland and heritage so we will see how things go. 1 thing I DO know is dem Dillard boys gone be there, the band is gonna b in the stands gonna b lit in the stands , and the fans are gonna fill up home or away. LETS GOOOOO DILLARD!!

This might be Dillard shot in a long time to make it to states and win. I know the whole city of Fort Lauderdale would show up. Norland is in your district but as you can see they went 14-0 last year and lost to Berkeley Prep whom we all thought would get steamrolled

Even I was shocked by that. But Berkeley also shocked the world and beat heritage @ heritage so they had some dawgs & a coaching staff that didn’t get no love or respect from the entire state until they ended up winning the whole dam thing.

as for Dillard they have to stay healthy & the players have to play together as a team. We lost to Ely out of all teams (SMFH) in the playoffs the last 2 years.

But I do see us winning at least 7-8 games so we should have the first round or 2 at home. And if we can get the north side of the bracket I love our chances to make a run so we gonna see. Should b an exciting year for Dillard. Last time we had the north side of the bracket we went to the regional finals in 2019.

    • And that’s where I’m at with it. I’m sure teddy heart is in the right place. But if we’re gonna keep it real, between last year and this upcoming year MNW has received well over 50 transfers a lot of them that are from different counties and stay nowhere near MNW.    some of them maybe because of changing environments for a better life etc etc, but it’s also 2025 and lot of the transfers was to follow the hype train.    while the uber rides can be a touchy subject depending on the kids situation, he also mentioned he needed thousands in donation for recovery, I get it he went pro and a lot of these assets he had in the league, but a lot of what he’s asking for isn’t even a high school requirement.    when I played ball out recovery was a ice bath lol. He then went on to say 4,000 a week for food ? , what are they eating lobster.    then he said for the three day gym stay he had to front 14,000 dollars for the kids. 14,000 to sleep in the gym for 3 days for what I’m assuming is for team building, is still insane.
    • Nolebull, You are making a good argument for what the rule ought to be or why the rule ought to be changed.   I'm telling you what the rule is.  Interestingly, I witnessed first hand the FHSAA deal with a case that was very similar to the (presumably, hypothetical) one you just described.  A family provided a kid with a bed for the night because that kid had an unfortunate family situation that would have left him homeless for the night had a teammate's family not stepped up and given him a place to stay for the night.  Yep, you got it, impermissible benefit.  Coach and school penalized.  The difficulty is coming up with rules that can't be taken advantage of.  Where do you draw the line?   If paying for an Uber is OK, why can't you just buy the kid a car instead?  More convenient for all parties.  If you can buy a kid a meal, why can't you take his family grocery shopping and let them stock up?  Or, better yet, just give then a gift card and let them spend the money as they please.  What do you do when one school offers up a $1,000 gift card, but another school is willing to give the kid a $2,000 gift card?  Do we really want to turn high school sports into professional sports?
    • Some kids NEED to transfer to get in the best position to change the trajectory of their entire life. Could literally save their life. Difference between going to college and being stuck in your neighborhood getting lost to streets.    And I can only speak for myself, but I’m more interested in a at-risk kid changing his situation for the better in hopes of saving his life than your favorite high school team losing a game because he transferred from your favorite school.
    • I wouldn’t be so critical of the FHSAA if they didn’t lie and say they give 2 craps about student athletes. I wish people would just be honest. But I guess if they were honest, it would mess up their hustle.
    • Wait are you saying there is a rule that bars an adult mentor who coaches young men a sport from helping a struggling student athlete and his family with transportation? Whoa that’s next level crazy.    “Hey coach I’m on the side of the road and almost got hit. I’m miles from school and it’s 110 degrees out. Can you get me a ride?” ”Sorry. Some turds 6 hours away in Gainesville said I can’t. Hope you don’t get hit or pass out.”
