In Central Florida, Apopka avenges its loss to West Orange and wins the rematch. Possible, but WO is still the favorite.

Rick Darlington pulls a few rabbits out of his big hat, and shocks Lake Mary in the first round. Again, possible, but this would be seismic upset that would turn 7A upside down. For the record, I have Lake Mary going to the state title game, but I respect RD's ability to pull off shockers.

Are you gonna be at the game ? I know you’re leaving the states soon. I’m rooting for your darters bro. Get that win.

Thanks!

Yes, I am going to make this game. Our regular season loss to them was our worst of the season, as I don't think they are as talented as Apopka even though we are down.

If Apopka pulls the upset, they could actually win round 2 where they would face either Plant City on the road, or Sarasota Riverview at home. We would again be the underdogs, but I think on our best night we could beat those teams.

But if we do get to the Regional Finals, the season ends at Venice as we would get smoked there.

who do you guys making a statement or making a upset in round 1?? @nolebull813

@Jullian @CoachGraham @561_Fan

My biggest upset possibilities, I'll give you 2 per class:

1R:

Fort White over Jay

Blountstown over Aucilla

1A:

Neumann over Naples Community

Orlando Christian Prep over Melbourne Central Catholic

2A:

Lakewood over Glades Central

Gulliver over Immaculata

3A:

Suwannee over Godby

Baker County over Bishop Kenny

4A:

Ed White over Pine Forest

River Ridge over Naples

5A:

Sebring over Tampa Bay Tech

Mainland over Lincoln

6A:

Flanagan over West Broward

Oakleaf over Mandarin

7A:

Apopka over West Orange

Western over Palmetto

I am not saying any of these will actually happen, but if you made me bet on an upset happening these are a few I could see.

I also considered this too. DeLand is a tough draw for a 1 seed.

Fort White ain't winning, too many injuries

I have a sneaking suspicion on an upset in 4A R1 but it's not that one. Ed White is too mistake prone and sloppy to win that one even at home

Number 7 Mainland over number 2 Lincoln could be possibility. Mainland started out 0-5, but rattled off 5 straight wins in convincing fashion. Right before they won 5 straight they drove all the way to Georgia and played a top 5 state ranked team at the time in their house to a 10-7 loss. After that they have been on a roll!

I chose Lincoln in the pick ems because they have had a better overall season, but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Mainland jumped up and sprang the upset.

That’s gonna be a great game. Should go down to the wire.

I just don't think they're as good as everyone thinks they are this year....tbh with you, I hope they prove me wrong and win this week AND beat Verot. I think them winning a few would be good for the sport/area.

I wanna see Pahokee do well too.

It is always interesting to me though when 1R teams from the panhandle come down to play the north Florida 1R teams. At times they'll struggle.

I too considered this. Mainland has gotten better since their earlier season woes.

Even still.

I could be wrong. You'll have teams like Northview 2022 who was pretty decent, but I don't think any of those teams are competing with Madison/Union/Hawthorne.

Oh I agree

I just don't think Fort White roster right now is in those same category

If Fort White was healthy I would easily pick them to beat Jay, they are just too banged up right now to make noise in the playoffs

I called almost half of these right btw. Considering it was upsets only, that’s pretty dang good.

    • Nolebull, I'm not sure who you're referring to when you talk about the "jealous" and "disdainful" people.  Bridgewater has put the MNW administrators in between a rock and a hard place.   He basically came right out and said "I've been breaking the rules and if you don't like it, tough sh*t."  The MNW admin folks have two choices:  try to take matters into their own hands in hopes that the FHSAA will go easy on them or, alternatively, put their collective heads into the sand, ignore Bridgewater's public confession and hope that the matter quietly goes away.  Oh, and it ain't going away.
    • Sure, but going about it this way will bring more attention to the absurdity of it all. Teddy is going to be just fine given his finances and reputation. The average high school coach who occasionally spends his own money like that, couldn't overcome getting caught helping.  If coaches REALLY wanted to bring about change, they'd have large email chat groups and decide to all come out together, at once, and proclaim that they, too, sometimes dip into their own pocket to help cover expenses. I suppose the schools and/or FHSAA could always cancel the season so as to administer punishments to all the guilty coaches for their generosity.  tl;dr: JUST SAY NO TO COMMUNISM.
    • Imagine the jealously and disdain you have to have for someone that brought you a state title, bringing in top flight talent, so much exposure, huge showcase game against a national brand opponent, all while forking out your own money to do it for some punk clowns to undermine you and try and push you out. SMH.    You know in SFL you can get really good or really bad real fast. So I wouldn’t shocked if this all ends in a dumpster fire that kids start to jump ship and they struggle to maintain the standard
    • If Bridgewater does get 'taken down,' I'd like to see him take a whole bunch of other guys down with him.  No reason why he should be the singular sacrificial lamb.
