If Apopka's defense can play as well as it did against West Orange, I think Wekiva scores no more than 14. If Wekiva scores 14 or less, Apopka has a solid chance of winning this game. If Wekiva scores 28 or more, I don't think this Apopka team will be able to score enough points to win, particularly with the depletion of the team's offense due mostly to injuries.

Anyone attending needs to get there early as Wekiva's small stadium will be standing room only for any late comers!

I love that you post these topics OldschoolLion!  Cocoa vs Pahokee is worth the price of admission and a soda. TBT vs Plant City will be really good.  Apopka over Wekiva, that will be great as well!  Lakeland vs Kathleen. Lots of good games.

You told me quite a bit about both teams last night

I'm actually thinking of slightly leaning Apopka pulling out the minor upset against Wekiva

Lakeland vs Kathleen at Kathleen should be intense.  The last 2 games were each decided by 7 points, and historically Kathleen has played the Naughts tough.  Back in 2004, Lakeland came to Kathleen undefeated and nationally ranked and narrowly escaped with a win in front of 8500 fans.  There were people standing outside the fences listening to the game.  It was a repeat in 2006, with nationally ranked Lakeland visiting Kathleen and barely winning.

2017 Lakeland 10-3

2016 Kathleen 14-7

2015 Lakeland 35-13

2014 Lakeland 21-2

2013 Kathleen 24-3

2012 Lakeland 28-27

2011 Lakeland 31-21

2010 Lakeland 47-13

2009 Lakeland 28-21

2008 Lakeland 30-0

2007 Lakeland 21-17

2006 Lakeland 29-26

2005 Lakeland 42-14

2004 Lakeland 19-17

Naples coach Bill Kramer took over the program in 1998.  That was the last year Barron Collier won the Crosstown Showdown rivalry.  Last year, BC nearly snapped the streak.  They led 15-13 with less than 90 seconds left.  But Naples drove the ball over 75 yards in one minute and kicked the winning field goal with only seconds remaining to win 16-15.

Both teams come into this one 7-1.  District championship is on the line.  The rivalry streak is on the line.  The sting of last year is still remembered...sooo close  This game has a great storyline.

Have finished adding historical information for each of the matchups listed in the original post.

As if Central vs Carol City is not enough, Southridge vs South Dade promises to be a close game.  South Dade just lost to Palmetto in OT, opening the door for Southridge to claim the 8AD16 title with a win.  If South Dade wins, these 3 teams should all end up with one district loss.

And Miramar vs Western up the road in Broward promises to be a good game.  Miramar won by 2 points last year and Western won 7-6 the year before.   With a win, Western can claim the 8AD12, something it has been wanting for a long time.  A loss sets up a 3-way tie between these two and Plantation.  Plantation beat Miramar and Western beat Plantation earlier this season.

Kathleen's 5-3 record is very misleading. They are literally 2 plays away from being 3-5

They lost 35-0 to Vanguard and 26-0 to Sebring, both games at home.

Sure they will be jacked up playing their cross-town foe but Lakeland is 5 TD's better than them, and that may be generous only because of the rival factor.

Exactly. This should not really be a contest this year.

I re-watched that game last night. That was quite a game. May see if I can get it uploaded to YouTube tonight.

Gulf Breeze(7-1) @ Navarre(6-1) 6AD2 matchup that will decide the district champion.  Navarre has won 10 of the last 11 games, but the last 2 have been decided by one TD or less.  Gulf Breeze won in 2016.  Rivalry game(Public Peach Bowl Cup)

The GB Navarre game should be a good one.  I would also include Crestview against Niceville for North Florida games.

That has been for the district championship in 6A-3 the last few years...even when both were in 7A-1 in 2013 and 2014, this game always has had playoff implications on it. Here it is again.

This could/should be its own thread.  There is so much to talk about in this game...defensive clinic.  The tabs with added information are incredible.  Holding this Lakeland team scoreless in a half of play...look at the statistics at 1:04:26....amazing  ....the hit at 51:55.

I have only seen clips of both teams, but I would probably pick Crestview over Niceville. Crestview’s offense is rolling.

The Navarre GB game is one that’s tough to say. Navarre has Dante Wright and GB has Tyler Dittmer. Both change the game dramatically for their teams.

I thought for sure someone would have something to say about the Pahokee vs Cocoa game.  Cocoa can score a lot of points but is giving up a lot of points.  Cocoa won 45-0 last year.

I think it's gonna be a shootout like the Glades game. Especially if Cocoa can't force any turnovers. I know Bartram game was really close.  So I see it going down as a battle for Cocoa.

While everyone is focused on the Central v Carol City matchup (and rightfully so), there are a couple other potentially good games in MIami.  Coral Gables takes on Columbus.  The Cavaliers are 3 touchdowns away from an 8-0 season.  They have lost by a TD or less to South Dade, Palmetto and Booker T.  With a schedule like that, CG is definitely battle-tested.  Southridge can claim the 8AD16 title with a win over South Dade.  If the Ridge loses and Palmetto beats Killian, there will be a 3-way tie.

8A fans of playoff-bound teams in central FL should take interest in these games.  Whoever comes out of 8AR4 will have come through a war to win the regional title.
