    Cocoa vs Viera

Both teams have work to do. Penalties are the downfall of great teams. If both teams can get rid of the penalties they will be Exceptional. Cocoa vs Viera. Teams looked evenly matched. Both had a lot of penalties. The score should have been 10 - 10 at halftime but Viera ran out of time at the 2 yd line. Cocoa goes in with a 7 point lead. In the 3rd Viera ties the score and pins Cocoa back at their 15 yd line forcing Cocoa to punt. Viera roughs the punter in the endzone giving Cocoa a 1st and 10 on their 30. Cocoa scores making it 17 - 10. More penalties on Viera and some desperation gives Cocoa 10 more points. The game ended at 27 - 10 Cocoa, but for 3 quarters it was a highly competitive game. Look for Vieira Cocoa and Rockledge to lead Brevard into the playoffs.

  3. First, let me preface my comments by saying I have always admired Lakeland's program and have defended their honor on this site. I will not question your knowledge of the past Lakeland teams, skyway, and believe what you say about this year's squad. I did see Lakeland play last week and they looked very good. What I will question is how much you have seen some of the south FL teams play this season. I highly doubt if anyone outside south FL has seen enough of the Miami-Dade teams play this year to be able to fairly judge their capability. And unless one has lived and breathed Miami-Dade football for an entire season, ie via coaching or playing, one cannot appreciate how nasty them boyz really are. Liberty City is ground zero for "nasty" in FL. And trust me I know Polk County very well to be able to compare. Bottom line, Lakeland has NEVER had to play a Miami-Dade team in an FHSAA playoff game. They historically played powder puff teams during the regular season and when they did invite Carol City to Polk County, they suffered one of their worst home losses of the modern era. I am not picking on Lakeland. Have said the same of St Thomas. If STA had routinely played MD teams during the regular season and playoffs over the past 25 years, their track record would undoubtedly be different...maybe a lot different. If anyone out there assumes that those Lakeland teams that beat St Thomas in the past would have smoked some of Dade's best those years...not a good assumption. STA is awesome, but historically some of their teams have not had the "nasty" factor of some of Dade's best.

  4. If Lakeland had to play week-in and week-out in Miami Dade, they would not look nearly so dominant...not taking anything away from them...just saying. That is not saying they are not a very good team. But Manatee is not Miami Northwestern or Columbus.

  8. And it is going to flip... I have to chalk this one up. Columbia can make a run to state (which I have thought that since the new districts were set). Thought it would be closer, but this is just out of hand. Got to make some adjustments.

  9. These 6 teams have all posted solid performances three seasons in a row and have established themselves as tough outs in the playoffs. I am not predicting any of them will win a state title, but their programs clearly have some good momentum. Winter Park(8A)-31-7 over the past three seasons. Have made it to the second round or beyond each season, losing to Mandarin last year and Wekiva the year prior.. Sarasota Riverview(8A)-30-8 over the past three seasons. Playoff losses came against Dr Phillips(twice) and Mandarin last season. Miami Palmetto(8A)-27-6 over the past three seasons. Three playoff losses came against very tough Miami-Dade competition. Navarre(7A)-32-6 over the past three seasons. Have made it to the second round or beyond each season. Vanguard(5A)-Have made it to the third round of the playoffs each of the past 3 seasons and won 10 or more games each season. Jones(5A)-Have won 10 games each of the past three seasons. Its 3 playoff losses came against Cardinal Gibbons(twice) and Cocoa. 2 of those losses were by less than a TD.

I'm not blaming the injuries. US was a good team and they should've won. PK probably had more talent on the field, but they've shown so poorly these first 2 games. PK should've had a better showing then what they did. This is the second game (KOC) where they looked unorganized and disinterested.

Between 30 and 40. We had more players dressed than University. Its just the lack of experience and adjusting to this new staff. PK graduated almost 30 seniors from last years team.

  14. Pretty sure that was the running back who dropped it, looked like he was thinking about what he was about to do instead of catching the ball, that would of been a big play if not a TD. Growing pains though replacing a lot of guys on offense they’ll work themselves out hopefully sooner than later.

They destroyed Gateway on the road 42-12 so impressive start. QB Denaburg must be younger brother of Mason stud looked impressive last week in KOC. I would think they might be most improved team in Brevard.

    Cocoa vs Viera

You are being too gracious with Viera. Commentator said over 100 yards in penalties in first half and not sure if all were accepted by Cocoa. Most were execution penalties, just not ready to play the game. What, 4-5 penalties on first drive of game. They had 2-3 first downs, moved the ball and ended up punting from where they started. Commentator said Viera scored on the back of the endzone catch that was called incomplete( feed didn't show viewers endzone), that plus terrible time management at end of half-Viera could have been up 17-10. Thought Viera and Norton would miss USF Atkins and it showed. Norton, scrambling till he could find Atkins last year, was too much of their offense. Cocoa is Cocoa again and should fight for state, Viera defense improved from last year but offense has a lot to clean up not sure if season is long enough to do it.

  18. I have never concerned myself with what teams might or could beat Lakeland, there are likely plenty of them. No one's invincible. The next game on the schedule is at Bryant stadium next week against the Superior Collegiate Legions. At this moment can Lakeland beat them?

  22. Armwood has looked as scary good as Lakeland has these first two weeks. I have no clue how the playoff points will work. But, if Armwood ends up with a home game vs. Lakeland, that will be pretty epic as far as Florida HS football goes. Edgewater, especially in a home game, will be very tough as well. Class 7A is outstanding this year. It may well be the best class in a given year in state history. And it tilts heavily towards the North side of the bracket. Should be a VERY difficult route to a state title for anyone. But, yes, Lakeland may STILL blow through everyone and win it again. If they do, they will rank among the best teams ever in the state.

This is the first time I've ever seen Pahokee actually look like a 1A team. That was not the same Pahokee team I saw play Deerfield Bch in the spring.

  24. I think Vero’s biggest question especially after the AHD game is going to be the O-line again this year. If Vero’s QB (Jankowski) has to scramble as much as he did last night, his learning curve could be steep. Their remaining schedule doesn’t allow much slip ups with games against Venice, Chaminade and Viera still looming and district foes Centennial and Treasure Coast.

  27. Trinity should be ashamed of themselves. They have always relied on having more talent to be successful but watching that last night was just pitiful. They are so simple on offense and defense with no scheming to try and put the players in a position to be successful. I’m sure they will improve and will probably play for another title but they don’t play up to their potential. As for Columbia they have to hope the QB doesn’t go down. That kid is special and he gives them a chance against most anyone they will play.

  30. Edgewater has some transfers, but not nearly as many as the truly recruited teams. In fact, the core of their team are returnees from last year with a couple freshmen who got significant playing time. Their QB did transfer in from DP, though. If you were to compare them to Lakeland or Cocoa where transfers were concerned, they would look pretty home grown. I though BM was competitive tonight (as they were in the spring against much bigger schools) and see no reason at this stage to drop the Edgewater game. It draws well as one would expect from two schools about a half mile apart, and the atmosphere is nice. Further, it provides Bishop Moore with a picture of what to expect if it makes it to the third round of the playoffs or beyond.

  32. I don't know anything about Marietta, but I did see Edgewater tonight and they have some impressive athletes, especially at the skill positions. Four of their five TD's came on big plays. BM played them tough for a half before running out of gas late in 3rd quarter. Edgewater was bigger and faster and substituted to keep players fresh; they have depth, but didn't put BM away until midway through 4th quarter. I expect Edgewater will continue to get better as the season progresses. They are loaded with transfers which will make it difficult for most of their opponents, especially those that are home grown. Their kicker put all 5 kickoffs out the back of the end zone; impressive leg.

  33. I think freshman Taron (Tyger) Dickens solidified that he should be the starter from this point forward. If he started the game NW easily puts 50pts on Gibbons.

  36. Wekiva is not top 10 in Central Florida. Anyone who has them there is basing it off last year.

  37. Bishop Moore may surprise you this year. They're not flashy, no big superstars, but they handled Boone and Wekiva in their Spring games. They also should have beaten West Orange by a couple of touchdowns in their pre-season game last week. Five turnovers and a terrible call by coach at end of game cost them a victory, settling for a tie. The idea behind the Archbishop Spaulding game is to give kids a chance to play out of state every other year. AP beat BM handily last year, but every year is a new year. BM doesn't duck any team, regardless of which division they play in. BM did make the playoffs last year, so they weren't bad; losses were to Edgewater, Jones, and Archbishop Spaulding.

To be fair. Only 2 starters returned on offense, both lineman and 1 is hurt. 4 starters on defense (all d-line), 2 are the offensive lineman and 1 of the ends (L. Kinsler) is out with injury. A new coaching staff and scheme, plus they replaced the defensive coordinator (the only holdover from last season) after the Deerfield game, because he didn’t want to coach from the box (excuse). With the schedule, plus these factors looks like a LOOOONNNG season
