    Rpi question

Main problem with the Playoff system is similar to last years. If your district has a few dogs in it, than you have a tough time at getting a wildcard playoff spot, so you have to win the district. I liked the old system better but would have somehow had a wildcard 3 way shootout for one of the spots for great teams stuck in a killer district. Also, I would not have had district champ and runner up face until third round instead of second. We created more problems with the playoff system than we solved. You know the system is lousy when they have changed it every year since it started.

Easier said than done these days... you can thank the Florida Legislature for HB 7029 several years ago for loosening up transfer rules.

Correct... I think there is a couple of more things the FHSAA can do to help with everything. 1. Consolidate the four regions into two regions - North and South... Higher classes have 8 districts in each region seed each region 1-16 with the eight district champs guaranteed no less than No. 8, then after that 8 wildcards go based on RPI 2. Reduce football from eight classes to seven classes. That would increase the size of the districts. 3. And speaking of districts, bring back districts for the lower classes. Going back to my first point, you would do the same except you only have four districts in the North and four in the South and you would take 12 teams per region... seeds 1-4 get the first-round bye while 5-12 are seeded accordingly based upon the RPI. I think if the FHSAA can work on these three areas, you will have a lot of happy coaches and they won't mind the RPI deciding the wildcards as long as everyone has a chance to compete for a district. Now a few schools will probably yell at me because they don't want to play XYZ because they won't have a chance. Maybe so for a district title, but to get a wildcard... it leaves the door for many of teams to get one.

Not really; it just kicks the can down the road so to speak. Then, instead arguing over the 8 seed that got in vs. the 9 seed that got left out, folks would be arguing over the 12 seed that got in vs. the 13 seed that didn't get in. I'm not saying that I don't like that idea; I'm just saying it doesn't solve the problem.

  7. Wilber Marshall was another Astronaut grad. He played for 2 Super winning teams, Chicago Bears in 1985 & Washington Redskins in 1991.

It will be forfeited. Pretty sure they will be forced to independent status on 2020 depending on what they decide to do with the program at Gulf.

  9. And they point I'm making is don't fall into the trap a lot of people do by assuming a close game to a weaker opponent means the other isn't that good. A lot of people underestimated Clemson last year after their games with Texas A&M and Syracuse and we saw how that turned out in the national title game. A program like Lake Wales only makes a title run maybe once a decade and therefore the elites don't want to take them seriously. Based on what I've seen firsthand, Lake Wales has the size, speed and depth of any of the other teams I've seen make it to the finals in the last several years. IMHO their biggest weakness is their play calling and offensive scheme. Its simple and somewhat predictable. But then again, when you have that kind of arsenal at your disposal, who cares?

  10. I don't believe Astronaut had any. But they did have a superbowl champion. The city of Titusville had an abundance of well known talent. Including Cris Collinsworth. Even a hall of fame quarterback resided in the area before moving out of state in middle school I believe.

    Rpi question

I think a team that loads up on highly difficult teams (Trinity Christian, Pahokee) and wins half or less are definitely going to struggle in 1A-4A to make the playoffs. I said at the beginning of the year that Pahokee would not make the playoffs because of how difficult their schedule was. Trinity Christian the same thing. You can schedule all the hard teams you want, but ultimately you have to win some of those games. If 4-6 Plant makes the playoffs, I think that will be an indictment of the system, just like last year an 0-9 Gadsden County making the playoffs was. As for playing 4 cupcakes, if you are a middle of the road team for your classification (Suwannee would be a good example), then it would be easier to schedule local cupcakes because nobody thinks you are going to dominate them. As a result, you end up with 6-7 wins and a good chance of making the playoffs. The FHSAA is trying to find ways for tough teams to play tough teams, and because teams can make their own schedules teams can refuse to play tough teams or end up traveling 3+ hours to find a game. The reality is that promotion/relegation would slowly push teams to their correct spot.

    Here is a Daisy Chain!!!

Gotta love chains! I sent this to a die hard UCF fan last year after their loss to LSU. It shows how using the “chains” you can create a winning scenario and rarely lose an argument as long as both teams have at least one loss. This proves that using chains to find better teams, non scholarship Division 3 Alfred State Pioneers who won 1 game in 2018, could have beaten last year’s UCF squad.
