It's been a long week at work and I tried to stay awake for Friday night's kickoff times.  Unfortunately I didn't make it as my body said otherwise.  I woke up a little while ago shortly after midnight and much to my chagrin, Armageddon has taken place.  This is by FAR the most abysmal week I've ever had in the contest.  I could've thrown darts at the wall and not done worse.  I won't say shoulda, coulda, woulda because with my picks because with very few exceptions the results could've gone either way.  Damn, I said coulda, lol.  Anyway, no excuses.  Please join me in disgust as week 7 is almost officially in the books to talk about where YOU went wrong.  @imjustafan2 @Longtime Observer @KeemD321 @muckboy561 @VeniceIndianFan @Holy Moly @PinellasFB @ohs vargas @nolebull813 @Trelle @A-Town 561 @Zachk1003 @DarterBlue2 @CoachGraham @DisabledAccount @Jullian @TreyS @Perspective @DILLARDBOYZ954 @Joshua Wilson

Surprised by Jesuit losing also. Less so Deland. While Mainland is down, so, too, is Deland and this game is a long time rivalry. I did think Deland had enough to take them down, but am not surprised they did not. Jesuit really should not have lost to an Orange City that could not beat Eau Galle.

Thanks a lot Cocoa smh lol what happened

They played without any intensity and Norland dominated the whole game pretty much. No key signature wins for Cocoa this season. Should win out the remaining 4 games. And have one or 2 tough games in the playoffs they'll be on the road and will most likely play at Bradford in the regional finals in another rematch

No matter how good a coach you are, you need a certain basic talent level. Apopka has always been blessed with very good athletes. Hence, the trick is to keep them home and buy into your system. Accomplish that, instill discipline, and get the kids on board that a deep run is not only possible but your birthright, and you have a recipe for winning a lot of games.

I should’ve picked Mainland over DeLand but I wanted to wait and see Mainland get a win against an actually decent team before I started picking them. They proved me very wrong. Also, what happened to Cocoa???

Their question marks from the beginning of the season are still question marks. The Norland game is honestly the worst I've seen them play in awhile. Also the playcalling was strange. Went away from what worked, didn't make proper adjustments to the blitz or the coverage. And the future 5 star QB kept locking in on his top receiver and didn't really get comfortable. 4 turnovers and penalties didn't help either.

Wow. Cocoa has really fallen off after beating Mainland. Losing to IMG and Venice I kind of understand, but I expected them to destroy Norland. We will see if they can  get back to winning (which they should) against teams that should be easy wins for them.

Watching the game first hand. Norland did everything right and countered Cocoa's strengths and weaknesses and took advantage of all mistakes made. Cocoa played better defense in the 2nd half but the offense didn't going at all besides a couple drives.

Didn’t even know Cocoa had a weakness. Their QB Brady Hart has been doing really good but the last few games seem to have been a struggle. Maybe the Norland defense started locking in on their top receiver. Looking forward to Norland having another big matchup this week against AHP.

Oh yea coming into the season their weakness was their trenches on both sides since they lost everyone besides one player on both sides of the line.  Cocoa's QB has always had that tendency to lock onto Boggs but he still makes plays on the ball regardless. Yes they doubled him but he still makes plays doubled team. QB just rarely looked to his other receivers that game and Norland schemes their defense perfectly being aggressive with the blitz and disguising the coverage.

Throughout the game he had other receivers wide open but didn't really have the time or was too focused on Boggs

The thing that kind of stinks is that this happens even in the NFL, during a play the QB locks on to one receiver and then the defense catches on. I didn’t see Hart just lock in on Boggs against Mainalnd, threw to many receivers, but times change.

Yea. He does it every so often. If you go back and watch some of the games from last season he did it as well. He just slowed down on doing it as much as the season progressed and this season but he still falls into it whenever he feels pressure. Just check out the catches each receiver has each game and it will show. The Venice game the numbers are skewed due to some drops

    • south dade has been a top team for well over 20 years!  lake gibson gets all the transfers in central florida it wants, read a wrestling message board and see the truth behind that.  there are kids that transfer from brandon and go to lake gibson and win big, has happened 2 or 3 times in the last few seasons.  south dade long time hc just retired and his long time assistant, who wrestled for him, is taking over.  could be a new power house in the state.  jesuit is alwasy good and has been for a long time, dating back 15 plus years.  brandon is not near what they were when cozart was in charge(even though his son is hc and he is still coming in working with kids, sitting in the corner, coaching offseason kids).
    • First, high school wrestling, to my limited knowledge, is not at a big-time, big $ level like football and basketball. So, I don't think that comparison works for what I'm talking about. I'm not opposed to schools offering sports as extracurriculars per se. If we return to football, perhaps we could use my alma mater as an example. What you've said about Brandon wrestling can mostly be said for Lakeland football. So, under my plan, Lakeland High school no longer offers a football program operating at anywhere near the financial level it is now. It would be a club sport, if they fielded a team of any kind at all. What effect would that have on the football players in Polk county? It would almost certainly be a benefit. As is mostly already the case, kids zoned for all sorts of different schools play football for Lakeland. It's an attempt at a...regional all-star team. There would absolutely be one or two Polk/regional all-star programs existing. What would be gone are the dysfunctional programs already lacking support. This would lead to a consolidation of resources such that the exisiting major programs have more $ invested, better coaches and fan support. The kids see themselves as representing Polk county, and not a particular school, anyway.
    • Coach Cozart must have retired. Thats why I said “was/is” because I wasn’t sure if they were still a power.
    • This aint your daddy's Brandon wrestling team anymore. Brandon has fallen off the globe from what they were when we were in HS. But now you have top teams like South Dade, Lake Gibson, Somerset Academy, and Tampa Jesuit that pretty much dominate the sport in the state of florida. Somerset is a school that takes full advantage of the situation that I explained earlier. They also have a lot of kids that go there and wrestle in grades 6 through 8th and then transfer to South Dade for freshman year or stay at Somerset. They even had a kid the past few years that would play football for Western HS and wrestle for Somerset. It is what it is....The system is F'ed and there aint no going back.
    • But that would be punishing programs who are successful. For example. Brandon High is/was a national powerhouse for wrestling for decades. So if you have a kid in the Tampa area who is coming up in elementary and middle school and is a stud wrestler, it would a huge disservice of the parents to not at least try everything they can to get their kid to Brandon. That is the pathway to success.    So why should Brandon be punished by having state championship aspirations stripped away because they laid a foundation of excellence in their craft?    Brandon doesn’t need to recruit. Anyone who wrestles knows Brandon wrestling. So if studs are showing up at their door in droves, why should they have to turn them away and crush their dream? Or have to be punished, sentenced to expensive regional AAU-type competition?
