We haven't played them for a long time. Today's Deerfield Beach  team has only one common opponent, Boca Raton. Deerfield beat Boca 49-6 and Vero beat Boca 42-7. So it should be a close game.

Scores often don't tell the tale. For while it is obvious that both VB and DB are pretty strong teams that destroy average teams (Boca), what matters probably more are the match-ups. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each team?

I have seen VB on film so I have a pretty good idea of VB's strengths and weaknesses. I have not seen DB either on film or live. I do know that they have their fair share of college talent, but I am unsure as to how they are as a team. VB has one big advantage: being at home.

It probably will be a close game; but to be honest, I would not be surprised if one team pulls away and wins comfortably. I don't pretend to know which team will do so.

Having played against Deerfield ...seeing them play in the stands && being from south Florida ..Deerfield has always been one of the most talented rich teams in south Florida constantly.

the only thing that has held them back honestly from being multiple state champs at this point is coaching. Their extremely talented but also extremely undisciplined.

I don’t follow vero other then the things I see on here about em so I know nothing about their coaching staff; but if vero coaching staff is solid to above avg I see vero in this game to the end with a chance to possibly win it at home.

Dillard is right though - consistently one of the top talent programs in South Florida with lackluster coaching. Their offense is serious legit if they could just stay disciplined. Check out this offense. Only struggles against sol'd SJ (DC) and STA teams with a Kickoff loss against Carol City in mid August.

Jaylon Knighton, (4-star FSU commit - no. 3 running back for 2020 overall)

Aydin Henningham (Pittsburgh Panthers commit.)

Xavier Restrepo, (3-star receiver Hurricanes ATH)

Bryce Gowdy (3-star receiver GTech commit)

Deajaun McDougle (3-star receiver Maryland  commit).

Woody Jean (3-star O-line Arizona commit)

and TWO D1 QB's - Derohn King (Southern Miss commit),and Michael Pratt (Tulane commit)

Concerning DB's coaching, Jevon Glenn is in his 5th season as hc.  He spent 8 years as JV coach prior to that.  So, the man has a lot invested in the school, and has brought some stability to a program that lacked it.  DB has not had a coach with that kind of tenure for ages.  You don't win at Buford, Georgia and make the state semis by being an extremely undisciplined team(last season).   They were doing a lot of things right.

When an 8A team puts a running clock on their first two playoff opponents, it gets my attention.  This DB team could be coming together at the right time.  That's not to say Vero could not beat them.  But I would not underestimate the Bucks.

Didn't know that - maybe it's their time. They just have had a string of bad luck making out of the first two rounds. Last year they were comparable if not better than Columbus on paper, and they fell apart in that game: dropped TD passes, massive penalties in the first half and at least two pick 6 maybe 3 To's in all - all on their home field.

I'm not saying they can't pull it off, they CAN. but Coach Glenn can't have a showing like that against Vero. I think this years team is actually better than the one Columbus beat last year. And Columbus is worse!

I disagree I believe it was Chaminade regardless of the outcome that happen. Deerfield is obviously a worthy opponent but if vero prepare & handle jussi was like they did vs Chaminade I see 20-6 24-13 type win for vero

Chaminade doesn't have FIVE P5 skill kids starting on offense + TWO P5 skill kids on the bench. DB's BACK-UP Quarterback is D1, their back-up RB and a 2nd string WR.

This game will come down to 2 things...

1. Can Vero's defense keep Deerfield's loaded offense from scoring?

2. Can Deerfield's defense contain Jermaine Dawson and Vero's well-oiled offense?

On Friday they held PBC's Bryan Robinson to 3 catches for roughly 17 yards and completely shut down Central's offense after their opening drive.

And with FIVE Power-5 recruits starting on Deerfield's offense it's always a difficult task to contain them for 4 whole quarters.

DB is firing on all cylinders right now. Vero looks very tough and well-coached though. It should be a good game.

    • Perhaps the best RB in Tampa Bay iin 2023 saw his program close, and is looking for a home. If he stays in the area,Venice is a good bet. (Lakeland may be as well).
    • And if that same newsletter asked the Osceola County Sheriff Department, what do you think the response would be? If you asked, members of the Chamber of Commerce? (Essentially a union of businesses) If you asked a group of nurses? If you asked a group of lawyers? Also a union cares about the working conditions of their members, but the working conditions of teachers are the learning conditions of students as well. People are attracted to careers because of the values that come with those careers. Political Parties attract people based on their values. So it shouldn't be surprising that certain professions attract certain people in certain careers. You act as if the principal's first question when we have a 5,000+ teachers shortage in this state is "who do you vote for? And are you a member of the union?"
    • I feel like y'all are always solid so I don't see y'all going no worse than 7-3. Biggest question mark for Cocoa is their O-line since they are only returning 1 and on the defensive side they only return their blue chip edge in their front 7
    • Coach Wiseman, let me just preface this by saying that you were the best HC Sarasota's program has had in the last 20+ years. You brought them from being a perpetual losing program to the doorstep of competing with Venice for a district title and a deep playoff run. SHS will curse the day they fired you now that they are back in a rut. You are a true class act, and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.  Our backfield is certainly sparse right now. We do have Dorian Jones, a rising sophomore runningback whom did considerably well considering his limited playing time last season. Our offense will need an overhaul with the graduation of 3 offensive linemen and almost our entire receiving corps. Our defensive line will be strong with the return of Ke'shawn Vaughn, Elijah Jones, and Asharri Charles. Our linebacking corps graduates virtually everybody but should have at least one bright spot with the return of Ben Zarkawiecz. Our defensive backfield is still a work in progress with the graduation of Lester and Platt. At the moment, we have more question marks than exclamation points. And that's not a good feeling with the kind of competition Venice is going to face.
    • It's possible that they find their stride by week 5, but at the moment we just don't have the on-paper talent to compete with teams like Miami NW, IMG National, Cocoa, or Bishop Verot. If Venice can find a way to go 7-3 with that schedule I would be happy
