  2. I've seen 3 Lakeland games ever where they looked totally lost. 1. STA 56-7 2. Plant 46-9 3. Armwood game last Friday Armwood game was the worst one bc the teams were so evenly matched. L had the best RB and refused to use him. #21 is also a hell of a back. I'm just shocked at Castle's faith in an avg QB against one of the best defenses and best secondaries in the state.

  3. You all need to stop complaining about the trip to Pensacola. The Pensacola teams have been going the other way for years. As for the cost it's just part of advancing in the playoffs. I am just glad to hear a team from down South has to make to the trip up to the Panhandle. As for Escambia they are better than you all think. This is not their first rodeo, the coach knows how to win and get his players ready to play.

  4. Kids could transfer in or out in 24 hours. Every kid on the team would have the nickname "Prime Time." Mascot: The Fighting Deliverymen. Don't worry about putting your film on Hudl; we already have it. I'll be here all week. Remember to tip your bartenders and servers.

  5. Maybe. He let's his emotions and narrow theory of what HS football should be get in the way sometimes. He's obviously very knowledgeable, just very jaded (similar to me the last few years:))

  6. So u expected Dillard to beat Central but struggle against Palmetto? Ok lol.. Either way none of these Dade county teams can take their foot off the gas this coming week. That's why you have a tough schedule to prepare for playoffs.

  10. They have been waiting longer than any other to repeat as FHSAA state champions. Who is it?
    1 point
  11. I was be even there in 09 when Lakeland was undefeated and beat state Champ DLS,California. Plant came into Lakeland on that chilly night and with the stadium at capacity, watched Plant give them a 3 touchdown home loss to think about for the Christmas break. Then in 2010, Plant sealed the coffin. Last year Lakeland rose from the dead, and this year, Armwood put the stake in their heart. RIP Lakeland

  12. Too late. They were shook. They let little brother Tampa Bay Tech come whoop them up only to escape alive. Them big bro came to finish the job. Lakeland dont want nothing Hillsborough is cooking!!!!! i still remember when James Wilder Jr was dragging Lakeland linebackers into the end zone in a running clock laugher Lakeland needs to petition the FHSAA on how to not have to go West on I-4!!!!!!!

  13. But really, it wasn't too late. The entire 4th quarter (and maybe some of the 3rd) they were within 2 scores. One big Bowman run makes it a one score game. While I understand the need to "open it up" and pass a lot, I think they gave the impression they weren't going to call ANY more running plays. Especially with Bowman placed up in front of the QB and thus no chance to be handed the ball. At least reserve the right to run a draw etc. That said, looking at the film of Bowman's TD run, I think a hold could have been called on Arian Smith there. So, they couldn't have felt great about any of their play calls. I guess they were thinking they would be doing a lot of stuff they haven't shown all year. In reality, strictly from a play-calling point of view, they ended up looking a lot like all of the other teams Armwood played. They sparingly (or not at all) ran their more unique formations. I think they played into Armwood's hands.

  14. Can any of the Lakeland fans on this board explain why Castle/Lakeland seemingly abandoned the run game? Yeah, I know Armwood has a pair of 300-pound defensive tackles and I know they have speed on the edges. But Bowman is one of the best backs in the country. According to the Ledger, he had 10 carries for 79 yards in the first half (including a 46-yard TD run) and finished the game with 13 carries for 82 yards. By my math, that means he only had 3 carries for 3 yards in the second half. Three carries! That's one possession. Armwood scored by completing a pair of the jump ball passes thrown to Hall. That's their strength. The first half proved that Bowman could hit the big one if you give him enough carries. Whatever happened to the old idea of 'dance with the one that brought you?'

  15. No they didn't. They played N. Gwinnett on the road. Played B-dale (twice, once in season and in the playoffs), Tech, Gaither, Chamberlain, and Wiregrass; all playoff teams. Plus, they beat Plant, who almost qualified and who nobody thought would be mediocre prior to the season. So 9 of their 13 games have been against playoff opponents. This is far from an easy schedule. They also played two 5 & 5 squads in Jefferson and Plant City. They're only real cupcake game was East Bay, who ended up 2 and 8.

  16. I made a thread a while back but can't find it. Lol. Does anyone have the list of teams who played 11 man for the first time this year and last year? And who is projected for next year? Isn't there a school opening in Bonita Springs and Parrish? I know Discovery High in Lake Alfred Polk County finished their first year. Can anyone help me fill in some blanks?

    Apopka at Seminole

Seminole started fast and moved the ball downfield easily on its first possession. Then a forced fumble at around the Apopka 15 was taken back 69 yards to the Seminole 16. Two encroachments by Seminole and Apopka was first and goal at the 6. One play later it was Apopka 7-0. For the rest of the first half, Seminole had most of the possession. But interestingly it was Apopka that came closest to scoring again inside the final minute of the second quarter when Williams seemed to have the ball in the end zone, but after he rolled over on the diving catch, the ball ended on the turf. Apopka coughed up the ball on its next play and Seminole took a knee to end the half. Apopka took the Seminole kickoff down to the Seminole 26 to begin the second half and proceeded to score on the short field from there. Apopka's defense stiffened in the second half and (was it late in the third or at the beginning of the fourth, I don't remember?) stopped Seminole at its own 41 on fourth down. On the first play from there, the ball was inside the Seminole 25 and a few plays later it was Apopka 20 Seminole 0. To me this was probably Apopka's best game of the year as they were up against a very, very good QB and an athletic team that was every inch as good as APK in that regard. After Seminole had the better of the first half from a yards and time perspective, Apopka's defense stiffened in the second half and held them in check. If Apopka can maintain this level of play for two more games, they have a real shot at the 8A title. Notable was the fact that Apopka cut down on the penalties in this game. Also notable was the fact that Seminole actually was able to run the ball with some success against Apopka. This is the first team to do so since Jones did for one quarter.

  19. Madison has never done that and this team isn’t as good as the one you had 2 seasons ago. It’s not gonna go how you think.

  20. EagleEye, it is clear from the officials stop-clock signal that he was a little unsure, and was looking for help from the back judge.

  21. Hoping Apopka wins it all, as I usually do if Apopka survives past DP. Would be great to see the Blue Darters and Deerfield Beach.

  22. UC is one of the 9! So you got 7 of them Jessica. Excellent! 2 to go. Cocoa - 10 appearances Madison County - 10 appearances Vicotry Christian - 8 appearances Booker T Washington - 7 appearances Clearwater Central Catholic - 7 appearances Trinity Christian - 6 appearances University Christian - 5 appearances

  23. Since there are 9 and not 8 and we missed 2, we'll only take 1 additional guess to keep things even! University Christian. They were next on our list of teams we think have accomplished this feat.

  24. You make some good points, but I want to mention that you keep referring to North Florida as if they don't have any talent and that there path was/is easier. If Dillard had the path that North Florida had/has then that means Dillard would be considered North Florida, and you would have North Florida talent and Coaches...so not sure if you can make a point about North Florida. Second usually when a team loses that means that winning team forces the losing team to play their game not their own game. In the end no matter the season record, as you stated before in previous post, that every team starts 0-0 in the playoffs and anything can happen. Unfortunately for your team you will not know this season if you can beat a North Florida team.

  26. I've been watching different games on YouTube today trying to get a feel for some of the teams I haven't seen much. I originally thought Escambia would roll Gaither but now I'm not so sure about that. That bus trip to Escambia can't be overlooked but on film Escambia looks beatable. I think it might be a pretty good game. I'll say 24-20 Gaither.

  34. Nolebull, you're smarter than this. If you have a team that is big, but relatively slow compared to your competition, and your opponent is faster and shiftier, a wet muddy field would go a long way towards leveling the playing field (or even tilting the field in favor of the home team). It's like baseball team field crews over-watering the infield to try to slow down a team that likes to steal a lot. Getting the field in shape for a game is one thing. Artificially creating a potentially hazardous playing field in hopes of giving your team a competitive advantage is borderline cheating.

  35. We made the trip from the Orlando area to the panhandle in 2014. Cost us about 12k to stay over night and feed the team for 2 days. Luckily we had donations that covered the cost. It's a long trip but if you do it right you will be fine. The trip back after the game really sucks especially if you lose on a last second field goal. Bring a pillow. Good luck Gaither

    Toughest Playoff Teams

I am not sure how much better Edgewater is from last year when Lakeland crushed them but I doubt anyone will have an easy time playing that Armwood Defense anywhere...anytime. (including STA) Let alone at that rinky-dink, cow pasture set in a traffic-jam that Armwood calls a home field.
    1 point
  37. In Armwood’s defense (wow, I can’t believe I just wrote that), they have very little control over their schedule . . . just like every other Hillsborough County team.

  38. Are you really gonna brag about beating up the little 1A schools everybody knows how Madison County gets around the number of kids in the school.
